The 2010 Games Media Awards took place in London tonight, with some surprises.

Nominees went into pre-show “pant-shit” mode, with no clue as to who would take the Games Media Legend award for the year.

VG247 did well here in 2009, taking the blog and online writer awards. The site’s editor (me) won the legend gong.

We were up for the blog award this year. We didn’t win, so Cullen’s ass is a bit sore from the lashing at the moment. So if you didn’t vote for us, you’re to blame for his ass looking like a baboons at the moment.

Here’s who all what what:

  • Best Games Blog -Rock, Paper, Shotgun
  • Rising Star – Martin Robinson of IGN UK
  • Games Broadcast – Jon Blyth, former PC Zoner for the Blyth Report on IGN
  • Best National Newspaper – The Guardian won coverage
  • Best Regional Columnist Dave Cook from The Scotsman and NowGamer
  • Specialist Writer Online – Tim Ingham,
  • Specialist Print Writer – Jon Blythe
  • Best Website – Eurogamer
  • Best Games Magazine – Retro Gamer
  • Industry Legend – PC Zone (see Pat’s speech here)

We liveblogged the lot, obviously. Get what happened below.

Holy shit, will you look at that picture.

Please replace the crinkle-chip holding the trophy with a hot, nubile Japanese chick (the context is not important).

    Thanks in advance :)

Was that the Oscars where she cried “you like me… you really like me”? Wait it was really “I can’t deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!”

The misquote is so much better.

Ooh, time to find some pictures to photoshop your faces on in case you win again. :)

My semi-baseless predictions: Best Mag: PC Gamer. Best Website: Eurogamer. Rising Star: Martin Gaston. Specialist Writer Print: Tom Francis (would have gone with Blyth but he won last year). Specialist Writer Online: Ellie Gibson. Newspaper: The Guardian. Mainstream Magazine: Wired (totally random guess) Regional Columnist: Dave Cook, The Scotsman (another wild guess :P) Games Broadcast/Podcast: The Blyth Report (hopefully :D)
and of course, Best Games Blog: None other than VG247!

If Ellie wins (again?) I’m quitting reading gaming sites.

Seriously. She does the consistantly worst interviews in the industry.

I’ll be there getting shitfaced. If you’re there, Pat, which I imagine you are, lets do some beer drinking.

With the majority, Ellie is fantastic.

Not many women that can make me laugh, so it was with trepidation I listened to her hosting the EG podcast… but she is hilarious and absolutely fantastic, BEST FEMALE IN GAMING!

    (sorry Stephanie :P)

I must be firmly in the don’t get it camp. She tries too hard, to the point where she’s barely talking about the games she’s supposed to be talking about.

  28. Debabrata Nath

Ah well, congrats to them but I belief VG247′s better.

    PC GAMING F T W ! RPS FTW!

But, to be really serious about that. The best news blog is absolutely VG247. There is no competition.

What RPS is doing right is that they are doing everything for the PC gaming blog + they are looking for the PC culture and looking for interesting mods that i don’t know for example. They are exploring the PC gaming world and they are good at it.

To be honest, these 4 guys know about PC more than many people do and there are so much interesting stuff for old school games.. or info, or mods. Deserved.

Hard luck, guys. Still, losing to RockPaperShotgun is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s not like you lost to someone shit. :-)
