Castlevania: Lords of Shadow reviews round-up

Reviews are going live for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and it looks as though critics are pretty pleased with Mercury Steam’s revamp of the classic franchise.
The lowest score so far is an 8/10, and we’ve grabbed as many as we’ve seen so far, and posted the list below the break.
We will continue to update the list as more reviews come in, and you can check out what OXM had to say regarding the game here, from over the weekend.
As usual, if you have any to add, please do so in the comments section.
Lords of Shadow releases for PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 5 in the US and October 7 in Europe.
- GamesRadar – 9
- Eurogamer – 8
- CVG – 9.2
- NowGamer – 8.3

I had a feeling they’d pull it off.
DEFINITE purchase. Only remaining question……which version is superior (if any)….

@11 if you feel torn then go with the platform which was used as the lead for development of the game.i think in this case is the ps3.But ad rumours go by the 360 version was compressed to fit in 2 discs and cutscenes are a bit lower quality while the ps3 version comes in 1 disc but it has a bit slower loading times, everything else is pretty much the same.

@7 Didn’t think this sort of game was your bag after your God of War trolling

@15 That’s because you clearly jumped to an unsubstantiated conclusion about my stance on the subject. You assumed what I was thinking, instead of actually trying to understand my opinion.
I *love* this genre. Spectacle fighters are my favourite genre besides RPGs. I just happen to consider God of War 3 one of the bad ones.
Since when did having a critical opinion equal trolling? Dear lord.

Some people who played the demo said it was nothin special and they don’t get how they selected this area for the demo when there’s plenty other real ‘Castlevania’ish’ locations to show.
Anyway, tomorrow the demo will come, right?

Xbox 360 Recommendations:
It is recommended that you install the first disc onto your Xbox hard-drive, or you will be swapping discs quite a bit. Once you make it to the second disc, and have to go back into other area’s you have already done, then you will be having to put the first disc back in.
If you install the First Disc, when you get to the Second Disc and have to back track into area’s you have already been, it won’t make you put the first disc back in, and you can just continue to play from the second disc.

The only Complaint I have heard from all the reviews is that you are in NONE of the familiar Castlevania Locations, your mostly outdoors in vast vista’s which is a departure from the castle and surrounding settings. That is not a Deal Breaker for me. I am just having a difficult time deciding which Platform, I wish there was a Demo right now, Like Vanquish…it would help me decide!

You sure about the disc swapping thing, frostquake? First time I’ve ever seen a game be able to do that.

@Michael O’Connor
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/26/how-disc-swapping-works-in-castlevania-lords-of-shadow-for-xbox/
So just install Disc One and your Set to go! Its a new clever way to get around issues with the 360!
Yeppers, Unless G4 TV and other sites are lying. They did their Full Review tonight on TV. They said that this game encourages you to go back to area’s you have been in and actually unlocks new things for doing so. They said if you install the first Disc, that when you get to the Second Disc you won’t have to swap it out with Disc 1 if you got back to area’s that are on Disc 1.
Actually Have installed Disc 1 on my Xbox Hard drive with Mass Effect 2, and going back to area’s from Disc 1 and playing those area’s and video’s didn’t ask me to Replace Disc 2 with Disc 1, and I’ve done this with another Game, and RPG game that I can’t remember off the top of my head, I think Infinite Undiscovery?

Michael, you posted negative comments in almost every pre-launch post on this site. We may have a different opinion about God of War but saying that you weren’t trolling is nonsense. Anyway I hope you enjoy this game.

just to add about the differences in versions.
GS review mentions that the ps3 version has a steady framerate while the 360 has some framerate hiccups during gameplay and cutscenes

@23 Interesting, and pretty cool. Thanks for the info.
@24 It was far from every post launch news story.
And I’ll say it again: Having a critical opinion does not equal trolling. I’m going to discuss my opinion of something if that’s what the news story is about.
troll (plural trolls)
An instance of trolling, especially, in fishing, the trailing of a baited line. [from circa 1600]
(Internet) A person who posts to a newsgroup, bulletin board, etc., in a way intended to anger other posters and to cause drama, or otherwise disrupt the group’s intended purpose. [from late 20th c.]
(Internet) A deliberately inflammatory post to a newsgroup, etc. [from late 20th c.]
If people are getting angry because of my opinion (or anyone’s opinion, for that matter), the problem isn’t with me, I can assure you.
Expressing one’s difference of opinion does not mean one is deliberately attempting to cause drama. It means they have a difference of opinion. Something the Internet doesn’t seem to understand anymore.
Regardless, you completely ignored my main point. You clearly assumed my entire view of an entire genre based entirely on my opinion of what I consider a poor contender within in. At least admit it.
