Rumor: THQ’s Red Faction arcade title may be Red Faction: Battlegrounds

Saturday, 14th August 2010 15:09 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

THQ has filed a domain registration for something called Red Faction: Battlegrounds, and while a web address may or may not constitute a new game, it’s suspected this is the arcade prequel to Red Faction: Armageddon Danny Bilson mentioned for PSN and XBL back in June.

THQ reported its financials this week, and the previous quarter was not very kind to the firm, as it lost over $30 million. However, you have to spend money to make money, and as it promised back in the spring, the publisher is extending its properties into other media formats.

One of these is a film called Red Faction: Origins which is slated to air on SyFy in March 2011 to coincide with the release of Armageddon. There is also the Partners program, which has already signed Double Fine, Valhalla Game Studios and is rumored to be working on a multi-title deal with director Guillermo del Toro.

So, this time, the domain registration could be the real deal and not a name grab. Maybe. We’ll send a mail just to be sure.

Thanks, Superannuation and Gamespot.

Love THQ, they may not be as big as EA or ActiVision, but i love so many of their franchises. Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, Red Faction, Saints Row & Smackdown! vs RAW, all of them are among my favourite gaming franchises.
