Rumor: Survey points to GoldenEye remake by Activision

Thursday, 3rd June 2010 19:19 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

There’s a survey supposedly floating around from Activision, asking folks about a GoldenEye remake.

This information was sent in to GoNintendo by an anonymous source, complete with pictures, stating that it is being re-imagined with Daniel Craig as Bond – on Wii no less.

If this is true, then the domain registry outed back in April along with the Bloodstone bit; Adam Croasdell’s voice reveal last year on “a third-person shooter with a mix of driving elements”; Bizzare working on a  project set for release in Q4 this year; along with the leaked GAME release list all add up to enough plot elements fit for a Bond villain of the most nefarious sort.

It all makes our head hurt, badly, to be honest.

If something is in the works, just announce it already Mr. Kotick.

    Daniel Craig? Seriously?

    I smell bullshit.

I don’t know if I’d want Daniel Craig in the GoldenEye story. I really like Craig’s take on the character and the more serious and semi-realistic tone they’ve adopted.

Putting that character in a story about EMP equipped satellites, a woman who kills people with her thighs and a jaunt through Moscow in a tank might be pushing it a bit.

Why not come up with an original story instead of trying constantly to catch lightening twice with the GoldenEye name?

What…Daniel Craig!? Get Pierce Brosnan to do it! Lol, this smells like bullshit. But hey you never know.

    Ahhhh….another Spring/Summer season…..another GoldenEye 007 remake rumor.

    Here’s my two questions.

    1. Who presently owns the rights to original game? (ie Rareware, Nintendo, etc)

    2. So does Activision simply represent an interested wealthy third party, or is there some connection here I’m missing?

Personally, I think a GoldenEye007 remake idea is a BRILLIANT idea and needs to be done YESTERDAY. I think they’d (again, the powers that be), be smart to FIRST re-release it HD style ala Perfect Dark XBLA (fantastic and worthy every dollar btw). The fans would eat it up, and it’d no doubt be a very successfull modern HD re-release, especially if they put it on PSN as well as XBLA (sorry Wii, you’re not HD).

THEN they could work on a remake if still desired, and a remake (with state of the art technology) is in my opinion a brilliant idea because so many Bond games have tried to top (or at least MATCH) that level of perfection the N64 007 game had, and have failed. Why not re serve us the same delicious dish which essentially holds the crown as king, but in a completely fresh and modern package…?

If executed correctly…I’d probably pay up to $29.99 USD for a package such as this (obviously must support online gameplay)….maybe even more if they added co-op to the single player campaign somehow.

P.S. sorry for the lengthy comment – very passionate about the subject – spent countless hours with this classic – also very much loving the FREE “Goldeneye Source mod” done through Valve/Steam community. If you’re a fan, definitley check it out very impressive stuff they’re doing with the orignial Goldeneye and updated graphics.

I dont think they even know lol otherwise we’d have an xbla release by now

“2. So does Activision simply represent an interested wealthy third party, or is there some connection here I’m missing?”

Activision now own the bond video game IP rights so they are thrown into the ever complex legal rights battle that envelopes this game. Essentially it’ll boil down between:

    rare & microsoft

I honestly smell bullshit on the whole thing, however, at this point there’s so much out there who knows anymore.

Someone needs to just come out and say:

a – it will never happen so quit effing asking us and go away
b – yes it’s being done so shut up and let us get it finished.

Ahhh ok. Thanks AHA! That does make sense then why this gem stone of a diamond hasn’t been re-released to date, not because “they” don’t already KNOW it’s a great idea, but because they’re fighting to determine who has the right to profit from it.

@7: Haven’t they called bullshit on this one already though? I seem to remember that someone who worked on the original title said that it pretty much was impossible.

@ 7 – what about that domain activision registered though? Something is definitely happening.

Though I find it hard to believe that this is wii exclusive, i mean why would MS give the go ahead on this after they effectively have to allow this partly.

Unless by “remake” they mean “HD remix for 9.99,” this is an awful idea.

I mean, what are they going to “remake?” Bond was a smash hit because it broke new ground in shooters and party games. The plot wasn’t awful by 1997 standards, but it’s not something that anyone’s going to pay money for. Same goes for Bond himself.

You know it’s only a matter of time before some beady eyed, clueless publisher decides that THEY will be the ones to recapture the excitement of Goldeneye, completely oblivious to the fact that the brand license had almost nothing to do with the game’s success. That publisher might as well be Bobby Kotick.

Perfect Dark is already on XBLA, it has the multiplayer levels and guns of Goldeneye.
Those were the best bitts of the game, nothing more is needed.

    Yep, this is 100% bullshit.

Even if it wasn’t, we already have the superior game (Perfect Dark XBLA) which itself hasn’t aged that well anyway.

As an annendum, I am getting mighty pissed off with the cynical practice of using the GoldenEye name for Bond games just to generate interest in a title that will likely be mediocre at best.

Riding on the fading nostalgia of 1997′s best console FPS is desperate and pathetic.

It’s not clever or cool, so don’t do it kids.
