Square announcement will “change Japanese history”

backtothefuture

We’ve been around the block. We’re no strangers to hyperbole. But this is something quite special.

Square Enix saying it will “change Japanese history” on May 21 with a game announcement related to some sort of partnership with Yahoo!.

That’s one hell of a claim.

As Siliconera notes, the publisher mentioned moving into network games as a goal in recent financials, so Yahoo! would probably be a good fit with that.

Maybe Yoichi Wada’s going to go back in time and trick all the Samurai into wearing Mickey Mouse hats, or something.

Or maybe it’s a load of bollocks. Who can say?

Didn’t Japan already get in trouble once for changing their history (books)?

They’ve invented a time machine and they’re going to go back and kill their own grandfathers.

Japanese megaton=little plume. They’ll announced nothing anyone cares about as per usual.

When I hear the name Yahoo I don’t think of games, I think of failed search engine businesses. I can’t think of any kind of tie-in with Yahoo that will be good for gamers. It’s probably a deal to flog in-game targeted advertising or some such shit.

They’ll go back in time with massive heavy duty nets in order to catch the Hiroshima bomb and prevent Japan’s defeat.

…. It’s ok to laugh about that tragedy now right?

Seriously, someone name me a good SquareEnix title these day’s because i’m struggling (and for fuck sake, don’t say FFXIII).

SquareEnix don’t develop great games anymore. Period.

The thing about Japanese devs is that they hold onto this “rule book” like some fucking bible. Therefore, their games end up boring, apart from the odd exception.

As Bob Dylan said “The Times They Are a-Changin” and SquareEnix, along with other Japanese devs, need to acknowledge this and move on from their conservative past.

FFXIII is good… it’s just not brilliant.

Square enix and yahoo browser game:

When you look at it you may feel a slight shift in the time space continuum

I think all of my molecules just simultaneously shifted one micron to the left. It could’ve just been wind, though.
