Rumor: Lucasarts to announce Monkey Island 2 revamp next week

monkeyisland2

Rumor has it that Lucasarts plans to announce Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge with new graphics and audio.

According to sources close to Kotaku, the title may even be announced at GDC next week.

If the source is correct, the sequel will be hitting PS3 this time around as well.

That should make fans of the series rather pleased.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition hit XBL, iPhone, and PC last summer.

Great news indeed. I only played the first game in the series (and bought the remake earlier this year), and have been looking forward to an excuse to explore the supposedly superior sequel. This Special Edition version could be the best opportunity ever to discover LeChuck’s Revenge for the first time…

Oh dear. They should leave classics like this alone. They can’t improve on a nearly perfect game, no matter how many decades have passed since it was made. They can’t replicate retro gaming.

That would be great! I enjoyed playing through Monkey 1 SE, getting Monkey 2 in a similar fashion is a no-brainer actually. Day of the Tentacle next please Lucas!

@ Droid:
I take it you haven’t played Monkey 1 SE; the game is not altered in any way but the graphics and it even includes the original graphics for some pure retro gaming love. It introduces a truly great adventure game to a new audience and rekindles the fond memories of its original fans. What’s wrong with that?
