Pachter: Natal will sell for $50

natal

Michael Pachter has called it: Natal will be $50 when it goes on sale in the US by the end of this year.

The Wedbush Morgan analyst, speaking in the latest edition of his Pach-Attack show on GT, said:

“My guess is, talking to my hardware specialist colleagues at Wedbush, it’s about $50 in cost,” he said.

“I’d be very surprised if the thing is more then $79, and I really think it’s going to be $50. Microsoft’s not trying to make money on the device, trying to get everybody to have the device so that they can sell us other things, eventually can sell us a lot more Xbox 360s.

“My call is $50, I think that’s where it’s going to be launched.”

Natal doesn’t have a confirmed price point so far, but it is thought to cost £50 in the UK according to an MCV report from last year, with a release in November.

So far, the only thing confirmed is a Holiday 2010 release, with the proper name for the camera coming in at E3 in June.

This is a no-brainer. Microsoft wants market-penetration more than anything else with Project Natal, so they’re bound to not sell it for more than $50.

This boring new “Pach-Attack” show from GameTrailers.com will hopefully be what Michael Pachter recently said about “Borderlands”: sent to die!

It will be sooo more than 50$ after all this is the company that charges 100$ for wireless adapter.

i dont care how much it will cost. it will cost the same in europe, anyways. to make it cheap for the soooo great US market, europeans have to buy their stuff for expensive prices.

Would say 50 bucks too just in for the hardware, but yhea, probably will be bundled with a gazzilion of mini-games or a Natal based exclusive game for 70 or 80 bucks.
Will buy nonetheless, just because of the concept of more Fresh games like Milo&kate, even it that one isn’t my cup of tea.

I actually think $50 is too high, although maybe if they bundle some software it would help. I’d expect it to be more in the $30-$40 range so they can get as many people on board as possible. It’s going to need a Wii Sports/Wii Play type killer app to get people excited too.

Following the trend … I bet by the time it comes out it won’t work on PC’s like they promised it would.

Um, I am not supposed to tell you this, but they are looking at packing either with Natal or a DL Card, Avatar Bowling…

I don’t care how much it costs…Don’t BUY this, or you can kiss games goodbye, for quick money making games that is shovelware just like all the crap on the Wii.

@2 …. agreed, Natal will definitely be more than $100 using that XBOX wireless adapter & other peripherals as baseline.

I really don’t think it will be because MS NEED this to be have a wide attach rate to their consoles and for it to sell consoles. That isn’t going to happen if it is $100+

If it launched at $50 it would be the cheapest 360 accessory out there aside from the memory cards. The controller MSRP is $60, the Vision Cam is $80 (albeit including a year of Xbox Live), the wireless adapters are $79 (old style) and $99 (“N”) and the hard drives are just ridiculous.

I can see what Pachter’s getting at but for MS to launch this at $50 would fly in the face of everything MS have done this gen.

$50 hmm about £60 uk pounds then:P good value if true; they only need to make money on software afterall.

No, I do like Pachter too, just not his new show “Pach-Attack”.
He’s the wrong guy for doing a kiddies-show on GameTrailers.

I honestly think they could sell this product for £30 and I still wouldn’t buy it. I’m just not interested. Not that I represent the whole market or anything, but it does make me doubt what kind of future this peripheral has.

The real question will be whether they bundle it in for free with every new 360 on the shelves this Christmas. I can’t imagine you’re going to get too many people rushing out to buy it as an add-on, but if you can ‘stealth’ it into peoples homes or sell machines to people who don’t already own one then maybe you’re in with a shot.

But ultimately… I can’t see it being a big success.

@ Blerk
Yes, but not only bundle it in for free with every new 360 on the shelves this Christmas. Microsoft will in addition cut the price of these SKUs by $50. Which ads up to a $100 rebate for any new console sold. This will make the new 360 (maybe even a 360 slim) fly of the shelves.
Why? 2010 will be the first year where Microsoft is in need to catch up with sales for Sony’s PS3. BTW: the PS3 will see a price-cut as well this summer or fall.

360s fly off the shelf due to some spaz cam? Coulour me skeptikal…

@ Tonka
No, primarily due to the price-cut (plus the added free bonus of natal).

I wouldn’t discount the appeal of motion control on a HD platform. Also, assuming that MS drops price again this year, the baseline 360 could be cheaper than Wii. If you’re faced with the choice of buying a non-HD console with motion controls VS a HD console with motion controls, with the latter being cheaper, then it seems a no-brainer. Assuming price is the deciding factor, which, for a lot of the casual audience, it surely is.

I’m kind of betting that in the scenario above the average casual punter would still opt for the Wii.
