US Dreamcast is 10 today

dreamcast

Makes you feel old, right? The American Dreamcast launched ten years ago today. It really was the Vietnam of games consoles; you had to be there, man.

Sega’s last, valiant assault on the hardware market ended in grand drama when the machine was discontinued in the US in 2001, a cessation followed in Europe in 2002.

Fill your boots with Wikipedia nonsense. Read Peter Moore’s Dreamcast whimsy here.

Lovely console – still fire it up for a bit of Jet Set Radio.

Holy shit, ten years? You sort of forget that the DC was almost ‘between generations’, a stop gap between the PlayStation/N64 and PS2/Xbox/Cube.

I honestly felt an emotional attachment to my Dreamcast. It’s demise is the greatest news story in modern games, as far as I’m concerned. Literally sensational.

Does a birthday still count when the product has long been canceled?

I only ever knew one person who owned one. He always made us play that Ferrari game with the really terrible rock ‘music’.

Heh. That was impossible to play. Yu Suzuki, innit.

We’re approaching 100,000 comments, by the way. Should do it today.

It’s what the Dreamcast would’ve wanted. :-D

Does the 100,000th commenter get a prize? :)

I never personally owned a Dreamcast but I did love playing on my mates, and I’ve been meaning to pick one up for a while but never have. Maybe I will get one now…

I read a really good article over at 1up for this last night: http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3175865

Quite depressing, and I’m not even a Dreamcast fan.

Ah, the Dreamcast, home to so many great exclusives. Capcom really should resurrect Power Stone, that game was marvellous.

so many good games, I would have to write a whole essay about them, so long live a machine ahead way of its time :P
