Rumor: inXile trademarks “Choplifter” with US Patent Office

choplifter

inXile Entertainment has filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “Choplifter” in the “downloadable electronic games via the Internet and wireless devices” category.

With such a listing, the air-battle, rescue mission title will likely be remade for iPhone or digitally distributed for consoles.

Fun news for those that recall the original 1982 classic that was ported to beat the band.

Raise your hand if you are old enough to remember this game on Atari 5200.

More over on Gamespot.

    No, no and thrice no. The resurrection of ancient games is no longer nostalgic, but just evidence of breathtakingly cynical cash-ins to snare people like me.

    Atari 5200 ? Modern rubbish.

    Atari VCS is where it is at. And can everyone stop calling it the 2600 please ? That name came later.

    As you were…

  5. Well at least I never mentioned my – I mean my neighbors’- Commodore 64, Goth.

    I played this on Atari 7800. First system was the Atari 2600 though (that was the name on the box #5). M e m o r i e s . . .

    I’m old enough to remember it, but it’s the crappy 2600 version that I played first. Sega’s 1985 arcade version is definitive for me. That game rocked my socks.

    Had this on C64 and played my neighbour’s VCS version ^_____^

    I vaguely remember playing this on the Sega Master System, does that count? ^^

    @Psychotext

    From that very re-direct :

    “Originally known as the Atari VCS — for Video Computer System — the machine’s name was changed to “Atari 2600″ (from the unit’s Atari part number, CX2600) in 1982 following the release of the more advanced Atari 5200″

    :)

    @Steph

    Crummydore 64 ? We’re all about the spectrum. The C64 had superior sound, sprite handling, colours, a keyboard that actually worked etc etc etc. But the spectrum had a soul. It was made of grey rubber and installed by Sir Clive personally in each one.

    It didn’t have a version of Choplifter, though. :-(

    Nope, and, in fairness, the c64 version of choplifter that my mate had was very good indeed.
