Gabe Newell says there are “good reasons” Valve won’t talk about Half-Life 2: Ep. 3

gordonfreeman

During an interview with Valve bossman Gabe Newell, he was asked why no word on Half-Life 2: Episode 3 has surfaced.

Apparently, there is a good reason for it, but Newell wouldn’t say what it was.

“I get a ton of email everyday saying why aren’t you talking about Episode 3?” he told G4. “And there are very good reasons why we’re not talking about Episode 3, which I can’t talk about yet, but I will.”

Maybe another protest group should form over this. One moaning about how new HL2:E3 info should be released.

We’d sign up.

More through the links.

Thanks, BigDownload.

Or maybe it’s been shelved?

Now *that* would something I’d like to see a reaction to.

The other possibility? Half Life 3.

A friend of mine suggested that they might be designing a new engine for this.

Pure speculation, but not entirely unlikely. The Source Engine is ageing now, and I don’t think Valve will close this chapter of the Half-Life story with anything short of epic in every way possible.

New engine…. not a bad guess. But i dont know. I rather get episode 3 with the same graphic style as HL2 and episode 1 and 2.

It will be live action staring Keanu Reeves as Gordon Freeman, Morgan Freeman as Dr. Eli Vance, Randy Coutour as Alyx Vance, Sharon Osbourne as Father Grigori, and Martin Short as the crowbar.

There are two reasons for this:

1) As others have hinted – Ep3 will use a new engine.

2) It is going to be a full game release. (Possibly containing the previous HL2 Episodes running on the new engine).

Maybe, but what difference would a new engine make? Lower system requirements and more eye candy? :P :P

Valve are going to release a motion controlled crowbar to play the game with.

I can’t reveal my source. But he reckons it’s 100% fact. He got it from Gabe Newell’s private twitter feed after he heard about it on NeoGAF.

Full game, and when you complete it it unlocks a demo for HL3

ooHH that’d be the bollocks

Is it me, or has HL2 grown into mythical status over the last year despite the fact that none of us have bothered to touch it since Ep2 first came out?

well to me, it reached mythical status the moment I started playing it

HL1 was better. Plus, EP1 and EP2 are kinda… boring. It’s HL2′s best parts distilled into pure form, then wrapped in a bad storyline which some characters jovially wax lyrical about while you stand around looking at things waiting for the next door to magically open so you can get on with the actual game part. It’s just like a shit cutscene you can’t skip. But I say boring because even though they try to mix it up, it’s still just HL2, I want something new and fresh already.

Didn’t they say HL2E3 was going to be a full length Half Life game? And then they’d go dark for however long it took to make HL3 and the new source engine?

I dunno, this whole L4D craze has seemingly got in the way of ‘going dark’. Didn’t they promise more Portal at some point soon too? And why go dark after constantly updating your engine for 4 years? It has a lot of old creaky tech whirring away in it but it seems like a waste to let an engine go after all the extra work.

I hope it’s not another ‘we can’t talk about it…. because there’s bugger all going on with it’, I doubt they can blame a ‘leak’ and then spend 12 months pretending the game was finished all along like they did with HL2.

Hardly a waste Hunam, it IS being used in the L4D series and they’ve whored it out to other devs too, Zeno Clash is built on Source if I’m not mistaken.

look it wil not be ps3 or wii only cause consoles suck it wasnt till the orange box (besides hl1 on ps2) that the series was on consoles pcs have better graphics than a ps3 im not saying it will not be on ps3 but it wont just be ps3 valve is more loyal to its pc fans then console people so shut up about its just goin to be ps3 only
btw my 800$ pc with nvidia geforce 9500gtx graphics card is better than a ps3s.
ps3 can just reach 800pci (hi-def) while a 800$ pc can reach above 1200pci(better than console)
