Variety sources are claiming PS3’s much-rumoured motion controller is to be revealed at E3 in June.
As per a patent filed in 2007, the device is thought to be tracked by a small webcam and can read different coloured lights, as well as the shape and angle of each light, making it far more sensitive that the Wii-mote.
Is this true? Very probably. How surprising would it be? Not at all. In any way. You have permission to look tired and all-knowing when they wheel it out in the press conference.

The PS3 already has a motion controller!

I can’t wait to see the 360 motion controller, then we can have a motion controller fanboy war.

I can’t quite work out which 360/PS3 owners they think actually want a motion controller.

I want a motion controller that works well for FPS’s.

Freak!

I do Blerk.
They can’t make casual games, they won’t sell at all.
These will have to be implemented into games properly, and seriously, more kinetic controls is ONLY a good thing.
I hate the association with casual and waggle, as if they are directly associated. Waggle may have sold casual, but waggle isn’t a bad thing. Especially if it’s an extra peripheral.

Waggle is a bad thing. I fucking hate waggle.
The Wii controller is excellent for pointing. And that’s it. Motion control is a complete bust because nobody knows how to use it for anything useful.
I will concede that some kind of pointer thingy for proper consoles would be good. But you can stuff your waggle up your arse. Matron.

Okay, well that’s all I needed to hear xD
Literal waggle is pretty inane. But again, it needs to be applied to non-casual gameplay concepts to work, and the Wii just doesn’t sell core.
Waggle can work for sure actually.
I hope so much that whatever this control is, that Ueda will use it in his 4th game. He is a master of control schemes.

Yeah, it’s more some sort of pointy based thing that I’m interested in.
Something that improves both FPS’s and RTS’s would help gaming a lot, I think.

Like a mouse, you mean?

Yeah, but I don’t want to be restricted to a table.

Flower certainly knows how to do the motion control thing quite well.
In fact, I’d said it’s one of the best uses for it I’ve ever seen. It’s one of the few games where it actually feels entirely natural to sit back and just move the controller around to move around the game world.
Blerk said:
I’ll let you have that one because I’ve not actually played it.
Then again, that works with the standard PS3 controller. Remind me again why we need another one?

You’re definitely missing out. You’ll never play such an indulgently relaxing video game in your life.
“Remind me again why we need another one?”
We don’t, to be honest.

I’ve really got to try Flower. Every time I’ve used the motion sensing in a PS3 game I’ve felt like the guy who demoed Warhawk at E3.

Most games do it disastrously. It never feels natural, and its usually way too sensitive to boot. I’m not big on the motion control thing myself, but Flower is one game where I couldn’t imagine playing it any other way.
Seriously, you’re completely robbing yourselves if you don’t give it a try.
Psychotext said:
I’ll get it at some point, likely when they do a temporary price drop.
Blerk said:
I’d love to give it a try but I only know one person with a PS3 and he only likes gun games.

Flower gets the Retroid Seal of Approval.
^______^

Me too….
Psychotext, it might be in the Spring cheap deals, unless that’s gone. But I understand the demo thing, as much as I take the piss.

Unfortunately it wasn’t in their recent offers.
