Marvel Vs Capcom 2 confirmed for PSN and XBLA this summer, first trailer

mvc2

Capcom’s confirmed that Marvel Vs Capcom 2 will get an update version for PSN and XBLA this summer. There’s a first teaser video after the break.

Quick points:

  1. It’s based on the Dreamcast code base – Capcom wanted to being the “best version” into the HD era, apparently.
  2. There’s online play – Dur.
  3. HD upscaling options – “Crisp,” “Smooth” and “Classic” visual settings will be included.
  4. Widescreen – The gameplay area will be in a 4:3 field, while the viewing area will be widescreen. For purists and competitive play, a 4:3 option (with vertical bars on the left and right) will be included.
  5. No unlocking – All 56 characters will be available from the start of play.

Direct port by the looks of it, still awesome game and it looks like it has all the characters to! Insta-purchase for me.

Yeah, I’m far more excited about this than I was about the SFII Remix.

Why haven’t they reinvented Strider yet, I wonder?

They did a mild reinvention of Strider for the PS1 “Strider 2″ game which the Strider character from the article screenshot is based. It was a bit hit-and-miss but still had some characteristic flair.

Clearly, Capcom haven’t forgotten he exists and if Bionic Commando can get a fresh outing then there’s always an outside chance that another Strider game may appear. Given the relative success of acrobatic slashers like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden (and others) a well produced Strider game has a reasonable chance of success.

I WANNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE!

Unless, um, you’re not up for it, of course. Might have come across a bit presumptuous there…

Why no unlocking I wonder?

It’s like the staple way to increase the longevity of a game that doesn’t really have much longevity.

Spose the online play will keep people coming back, but where’s the incentive to use characters other than Ryu?

Dont worry about Ryu, i’m sure they’ll be plenty of Cable players; shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot!

Its true that the lack of unlocks is abit disapointing, i dont really care about the characters but i hope they’ve left the artwork and colour unlocks in, though i didnt see any evidence of it in the video walkthru.
