Resident Evil 6 to see full franchise reboot

Producer Jun Takeuchi has told 1UP that Resident Evil it to get a proper reboot with its sixth game.
In what is destined to be the first genuinely epic game of 2009, Resident Evil 5 is practically guaranteed to be the last of its kind, with the game’s producer, Jun Takeuchi, assuring us that a reboot is in order for the inevitable Resident Evil 6. That’s not to suggest that there’s anything wrong with the evil at hand. Quite the opposite; it’s awesome fun, and we’ve beaten the game from beginning to end, and have a week’s worth of detailed, insider info for you to enjoy.
The news is likely to go down well with the many RE5 demo-players that felt the game was somewhat stuck in the past.
No date, details, or anything else for that matter. Obviously.
Thanks, Kotaku.

I’m still going to play 5. Seven hours sounds like a good length to me.

I hate the fact that non-Resi fans are dictating the direction of the series.
Was anyone pleased when they added in tech-rolls and more combat to Silent Hill? Well thats from listening to the average Live user.

Actually, I think they could learn a lot from Bioshock (I seem to be plugging that game too much today).
It’s an action game, which is clearly what the Resi guys want to make, but it’s also a fully-formed story and totally dripping in atmosphere. It’s creepy, it’s tense, and it actually controls well.
A sort of slightly-slower-paced more-adventurey Bioshock/Left 4 Dead combo would suit Resi down to the ground.

Actually in terms of controls Bioshock have imposed limitations to highen fear just like Resi, they might be more subtle but its controls are nothing like say Fear or something along those lines.
Most of the tension in Bioshock disapates when you realise that nearly all of the enemies in the game just run straight at you as soon as they sniff you. Making plasmids like the sneaking one, or the ambush wrench one a bit useless. All that laying of traps and creating kill zones was a bit pointless aswell because theres just not really any point to it all when you can just zap everything far mroe easily.

But then it wouldn’t be Resident Evil. What they need is to go back to the old style and have less enemies and more puzzles. And it must be third person.

It already isn’t Resident Evil, though.
I seriously doubt they’ll go back now. So if they’re intent on going the way that they’re going anyway then they just need to do it right and stop clinging on to the quirks and foibles of the past.

They just need to find a balance between the story, the set-piees and the feel of RE that most of the fanbase play them for and putting in Gears of War controls for people that play the demo and decide not to buy the game anyway.
“cos its a Gears clone olol”

Anyway, it’ll probably turn out to be a lightgun-based mini-game collection for the Wii. With zombie Miis.

I made a zombie Mii. It was the first Mii I made. His name was ItchyTasty.

There’s already a lightgun RE game for Wii. And it’s great.

resident evil as it stands has been outdated for at least 5 years.

resi 4 is epic not outdated, what 5 needs is less set pieces less ammo, less guns, less enemies, less bosses, and more moments that scare the shit out of you, seems to be turning away from what made 4 good and going towards gears of war, which no-one wants.

“which no-one wants”
speak for yourself, dude.
I’ve played all REs since 1996, including every spin-off. this game is a piece of shit in my opinion, it will be the first RE ever I won’t be getting. I look forward to that reboot indeed.
