Resident Evil 5 will sell 3.2 million copies, says Capcom
Capcom’s issued sales estimates for its bigger games, putting expected figures on the likes of Resident Evil 5 and Bionic Commando.
RE5 will sell around 3.2 million copies, apparently, and Street Fighter IV will put in an appearance to the tune of 1.7 million units.
Bionic Commando will sell close to 1.5 million, says the firm, and Dead Rising Wii will hit 500,000.
Thanks, Kotaku.

If an expensive, franchise-led, single platform title like Metal Gear Solid 4 can ship (yes, ship not sell) around 4m since launch in less than a year (I hear it did about 1.3m in its first week) then I’m sure a similarly high-profile title like Resi5 can do 3.2m on multiple platforms.
I hope it turns out ok. All other Resi games have been overrated piles of toss. I’d rather play Too Human.

Shatner i was with you until you said you’d rather play Too Human, which was over hyped and received very meh reviews http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/toohuman , Resi Evil has had it’s ups and downs but the first one was excellent, and the Resi 4 was amazing, ignore all the spin offs and lightgun versions and overall it’s been consistantly good.

I don’t find endlessly organising a deliberately-too-small inventory to be a particularly fun game mechanic. Nor constantly hunting for ammo to be heaps of fun. Nor looking for bland objects like BLUE KEY (Left half) and BLUE KEY (Right half) to be heaps of fun. Nor shonky aiming controls to be heaps of fun. There’s some nice scripted sequences but, overall, the franchise has had some absolutely horrible and over-contrived shoddy mechanics covered over by people’s fetish for anything with a zombie in it.
And Too Human’s pretty good. I went through it twice

So shatner your pretty much saying any game that you actually have to spend time playing and looking for ammo to not be heaps of fun? When anyone of you puts out a game that is closely comparable to resident evil 4 please let me know. Then you’ll be given the right to criticize other’s games. He who is without sin may cast the first stone. Are any of you without sin?

I never much liked Resident evil 4 the only thing that’s interesting me about 5 is the Coop aspect if they get that right then I’m sold.
Love coop

Oh look, the usual suspects have returned to cast judgement on someone who DARES to express an opinion that goes against the internet herd!
Seriously, in every Resi game you’ve seen 100% of the full gameplay in the first hour (and that’s a generous estimate). I like shooting games. I like games with ammo. But I don’t like archaic and blatantly over contrived limitations to the player character put in place of satisfying and considerate game design. Scavenging nearly every piece of ammo (I think the rocket launcher has, what? 2, 3 rounds in the entire game?) is not the same as monitoring ammo and clip size. Organising my carefully 3-sizes-too-small virtual sock drawer is not a gameplay challenge I find particularly satisfying or engrossing. It’s archaic and contrived. Nor do I like the deliberately obtuse control and player movement schemes that are characteristic of every single Resident Evil game. They are artificial limitations imposed on an otherwise capable character so as to create challenge. It’s the laziest way of creating challenge there is and I don’t happen to care for it. Nor do I care for looking for obscure items that are deliberatey split into two or three pieces every time so as to force the player (and his cumbersome controls and malnourished weapons) back through, admittedly, very pretty environments.
See, when you seek to criticise something, it helps if you substantiate your criticisms with detailed points. Otherwise you look like an internet troll arguing against the person rather than what they say. Right Stu? Another wonderful contribution from you that demonstrates you have little to offer besides and internet grudge and a complete reluctance to engage in reasoned debate.
And tony412, this is the internet. Just as Alpha Male Stu has a divine right to come out from under his bridge to troll, I have every right to criticise any game I see fit. The notion that certain games are beyond criticism is moronic and only serves to prove how narrow minded some people are.
Interestingly, games like Bioshock and Resident Evil are applauded by many gamers. They’re graphical showcases that hide their extremely thin and shallow gameplay content very well. You can always tell a failed game design critic when they talk up those two games. Pretty graphic often convince people there’s more GAME than there actually is. And, anyone who has ever made a game knows any gameplay worth playing works without any pretty graphics at all (to which I should direct you to the prototypes of the first Guitar Hero game that Harmonix demonstrated at some point in history – except I very much doubt any person here cares more for a genuine understanding of game design and development than they do for being contrary just for the sake of it.)
Resident Evil 4, like the Wii, is a disturbing real life enactment of The Emperor’s New Clothes. It’s amazing and tragic how many of the gamers who consider themselves smarter than the average bear can fall for the oldest trick in the book
Seriously, if any of you favour great design over pretty graphics and contrived, walled experiences then you should Google DRoD and try it out. Sure, it’s not marketed by one of the largest publishers in the industry but it’s a far far better game for it. Very friendly and intelligent community too. You’ll thank me for it. Well, you would if manners meant anything to anyone on the internet. Eh Stu?
Oh, and if you think this post is “too long” then that’s a shame. Because, unlike some people who spit out a sentence and expect the world to just accept it, supporting your opinions properly broadens understanding – assuming your audience isn’t narrow minded and favours ignorance or burying their head in the sand.
