First Conduit footage shows teh real next-gen Wii shooting

Colour us surprised. The first footage of High Voltage shooter Conduit looks pretty cool, no question. High Voltage has only shown a tech demo of its work up to now, so it’s good to see things coming along. The title doesn’t have a publisher yet, which is rubbish, so someone get on and sign it. After the link.

Well, if we’re judging the quality of a game on graphics alone (kinda odd considering this is for Wii, but there you go) then the art direction is coming right out of the N64 days. Metroid still looks better.

Also, are we, as a culture, giving props to games because we think something looks ok considering it’s on the Wii? I don’t see why one console in today’s climate should get special dispensation whilst others don’t.

Also, FPS games tend to find their worth more in multiplayer than singleplayer. Again, not something I’m expecting a great deal from considering the host platform.

Yes, it looks decent considering it’s on the Wii but, no, it doesn’t look that hot for an FPS in 2008.

Looks pretty good.

The Wii is still in need of a top class shooter that nails both the controls and the graphics – Metroid is undoubtedly a great game, but it’s not a traditional FPS. Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 played well but looked pretty drab and was another WWII based game (which I’m kind of bored of now).

Yeah, in the context of the best PC shooters this may not have raised many eyebrows, but since it is on the Wii and will make use of the Wii controls, the fact that it also looks decent (and I like the look of that eye thing that seemed to show up hidden objects and enemies) is very notable indeed.
