USgamer Community Question: What Are You Playing on This Busy, Busy Weekend?

So few games to play, so much free time. Wait. Strike that. Reverse it. Thank you.

Assassin's Creed Origins. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. Super Mario Odyssey. All out now. All competing this weekend for your precious free time and money.

Sure, it's the time of the year when the biggest releases slink into the light, but we haven't had a weekend this busy in quite some time. Which new release has your attention this weekend? Or are you going to fall back on something a little older? Talk to us.

This is a dark hell I've been living through and I can only now see the light. To be perfectly honest, I have Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and Super Mario Odyssey purchased and downloaded. I've played both briefly and enjoyed them immensely. I'm looking forward to enjoying them on a regular basis.

If i'm being honest though, I'm probably going to spend most of the weekend beating Assassin's Creed Origins again. I tore through that game during my review week in San Francisco, but none of that counted towards my actual account. Now that I have the game on my PlayStation 4 Pro proper, it's time to rectify that.

My guess is I'll play Assassin's Creed Origins during the day and when I'm in bed, I'll be rocking Super Mario Odyssey.

Well, I've played the heck out of Mario Odyssey this week, and I reckon I'm down for a little more. I've found maybe 1/9th of the Power Moons the game offers, and my husband and I will do a little treasure hunting this weekend.

I figure I'll keep grinding away at Final Fantasy IX, too (for the Final Fantasy IX report, don't'cha know!). I'm also working at Mario & Luigi + Bowser's Minions when the fancy takes me. Whew. Been a busy week, and it's only going to get busier. Good luck keeping your head above the water line, everyone.

I reviewed the excellent Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus earlier this week, so I guess that knocks one of the big games off my to-do list. If there was one game for me to recommend this weekend, it would easily be that. I'm already sweating considering having to decide between what gets the number two slot on my game of the year list: Wolfenstein 2 or Persona 5.

But the game I'm playing this weekend isn't Wolfenstein 2, even if I've already started a second playthrough on the alternate path with little ol' Wyatt. It's probably what most of you are playing: Super Mario Odyssey.

I don't have as big of a history with Mario as most people. I didn't really grow up with Nintendo consoles, my first Mario game was Super Mario World on the Game Boy Advance. The only 3D Mario games that I've really loved were the Galaxy games on the Wii and Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS. To put it simply, it's hard for Mario games to really click with me. I've always recognized their polish, it's just that sometimes they're missing that extra umph for me.

I'm only a few hours deep into Super Mario Odyssey, and I feel like it's pretty aimless so far, like Kat said a while back in her preview. I hope it picks up a little bit. I have about 60 moons right now, and I'm not abhorring my time with it or anything—it's fun, just maybe not Wow, Amazing-level fun, at least not yet. Nonetheless, I'll keep on truckin' on, and who knows, maybe I'll come out the other end head over heels for New Donk City's resident plumber. I'm just happy to be playing another meaty Nintendo game on my Switch.

Unlike my co-workers who reviewed one of the three major releases today, I was forced to wait for today like everyone else.

So when I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was buy Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus off the PSN store. Unfortunately it will take a couple hours from now until the game fully finishes downloading and installing.

Likewise my copy of Super Mario Odyssey won't arrive from Amazon until later today.

As a huge fan of Wolfenstein: The New Order, my original intention was to knock out Wolfenstein 2 over the weekend. Deep down however I just know that once I start up Super Mario Odyssey, I probably won't be able to put it down until I finish the game. Which means it might be better for me to hold off on Odyssey until after I finish The New Colossus.

Either way, I'm sure I'll have some opinions about both games come Monday, but until then the long wait continues.
