Penny Arcade announces Decide-o-tron 8000

Decide-o-tron 8000 is a new app from the team at Penny Arcade, in collaboration with EEDAR, which helps you discover new games.

"The Decide-O-Tron is essentially Pandora for games, that’s about as clear as I can make it," writer Jerry Holkins (Tycho) explained on Penny Arcade.

Thanks to a friendship with Geoff Zatkin, founder of games industry consultancy firm EEDAR, Decide-o-tron has access to an amazing database of over 10,000 games and 45 million data points.

The free app covers a variety of platforms - PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Network, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox Live Marketplace, Wii, Nintendo DS, DSI and 3DS, WiiWare, Virtual Console, GameCube, GameBoy Adv, and PC - and will allow users to collate a detailed library of games played. A slightly frightening robot will then make recommendations based on their gaming history.

"Though humans were technically responsible for its manufacture, they are inferior to the crystalline clarity of its logicore," a press release advised.

"Game purchasing advice is the most rudimentary application it can be put to. Soon, it will tell you which way to turn at all of life's crucial junctures. Accept the transition, and losses can be minimized."

Other features include sharable wishlists with release notifications and celebrity playlists.

Decide-o-tron 8000 is expected to launch in the next few weeks, and can be previewed at PAX, which kicks off in Seattle on August 26. In the meantime, you can hit up decideotron.com to learn more, or even - somewhat mysteriously - follow it on twitter.
