Dungeon Defenders blends RTS and tower defence with new 'Summoner' class

Trendy Entertainment has revealed a new class for Dungeon Defenders that pulls traditional real-time strategy elements into the tower defence title - The Summoner.

The Summoner drags RTS elements into the tower defence gameplay of the popular downloadable title thanks to his unique ability to switch to a top-down view. From there he can command the troops that he's summoned into battle with precision and a suite of options that looks like it's been ripped straight from a title like Command & Conquer.

It comes at a cost, though - the Summoner doesn't get any towers and he can't attack enemies himself unlike other characters in the game. He makes up for that with the ability to float above the battlefield freely, dropping down to heal his summoned warriors.

The Summoner is the latest character to be added and brings the total number of heroes available in the game to 12. It's available as an optional download for the PC version of Dungeon Defenders for $3.99. See the Summoner in action for yourself in the new trailer below.
