BoingBoing's Offworld resurrected as new, diverse gaming blog

Offworld is back, but not as you know it.

Offworld was Boing Boing's gaming blog, helmed by Brandon Boyer from 2008. By 2010 it had been rolled into Boing Boing itself, eventually falling mostly silent and in 2011 Boyer founded a new site, Venus Patrol.

The brand has languished unused ever since, but Boing Boing's Laura Hudson has now teamed up with veteran games journalist Leigh Alexander to resurrect it as a new games blog with room for everyone - especially those who feel uncomfortable in existing spaces.

"Ever thought games might not be for you? Join us. Here, games are for you," the site's announcement post reads.

"Offworld is a place for curious and playful grown-ups, where we can enjoy the endless possibilities of the 21st century’s greatest art form. We're here to express our love of exploring new worlds, to talk to their creators, to share our discoveries, and imagine new frontiers to play in together.

"This will be an unequivocal home for women and minorities, whose voices will make up most of the work published here. We're central to the growth and development of this warm, brilliant, expressive medium."

The site will officially open on March 9.

You can sign up for email updates on Offworld on the website. Because Alexander and Hudson are rad, the holding site also contains a playable version of Asteroids.
