Historical strategy-sim series Romance of the Three Kingdoms is returning after an eight-year hiatus in the west.
Developed for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 will feature a Campaign mode allowing players the freedom to choose a starting year and customize the board to their liking. A Hero mode, which acts an in-depth tutorial, will closely follow the historical events of China as well as teach the mechanics.
The storyline is centered around a “collapsing dynasty and the emergence of power-hungry factions.” It is set on a chessboard which players can follow and influence the events leading to the unification of 2nd century China with 700 historical characters.
Players can also create their own character or use fan favorites Zhao Yun, Liu Bei, Cao Cao and others.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 will launch in North America on July 5 for PC via Steam and on PlayStation 4.
