Mortal Kombat X's online match experience is getting an overhaul and a beta

Mortal Kombat X's online component is getting a major overhaul and Netherrealm Studios needs your help with testing.

Starting on January 19, beta sign ups will go live for a "new and improved online play experience." The goal, according to the developer, is to move away from the dynamic input latency model and updating the networking code. It will be similar to the GGPO model. This will help with lag and other frustrations which can be experienced in an online game.

Instead, the team wants the game to feel more like an offline title so that when players are online, a consistent response will be maintained. Players will no longer have to wait for opponents to agree on input before drawing its results to the screen.

Anyone who has spent at least one hour of online play in Mortal Kombat X as of January 19 can sign up for the beta. Not everyone will get in right away, but as the beta moves forward, more players will be added.

Only four characters will be included at the start: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Briggs and Cage. More will be added as the test continues.

Those interested in the beta can sign up through here, but the page isn't live just yet.

The Mortal Kombat X Enhanced Online beta will be made available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
