Developer frustration mounts as Desura admits to payment backlog

Many developers which use the digital distribution service Desura have complained of late payments or not being payed at all by the company.

According to various developers, late payments and non-payment has been the norm since Second Life developer Linden Labs sold the service to Bad Juju in November 2014.

A blog post on the Desura website stated numerous company issues have led to the lack of checks being cut such as: an office move, the CEO being hospitalized, the lack of an automation system and more – all of which were contributing factors to a payment backlog.

Bad Juju’s Lisa Morrison, who is head of developer relations, admitted to Gamasutra there have been issues with timely payments but the firm was not refusing payment to any developer.

“The acquisition of the company last year has presented us with a number of very difficult issues to tackle, and we have been clearing those hurdles as efficiently as we are able,” Morrison wrote on the company blog. “There are delays, and issues which need work to correct, but we will absolutely be paying all accounts due. We are taking this very seriously [and] we are already working on changes.

“The entire site and client are being completely redone, to give developers far more control. Please bear with us a little while longer as we implement the changes that are needed.”
