FIFA 11, Madden 11, NBA Jam and The Sims 2 among EA New Year closures

EA has announced a round of server shutdowns for a variety of online games, including a swathe of 2010 sports releases and the last of its basketball games.

As of January 3, EA Sports will cease online services for FIFA Manager 11, but as of January 11, it will shutter FIFA 11, FIFA 11 Ultimate Team, Madden NFL 11, Madden NFL 11 Ultimate Team, NBA Jam, NBA Live 10, NCAA Football 11, NHL 11 and NHL 11 Ultimate Team.

With the closure of NBA Live 10 (the last release in the series thanks to the shelving of NBA Live 13) following on from NCAA Basketball 10 some time ago, EA Sports no longer provides a single online basketball sim.

Later in the month, on January 14 the publisher will also close The Sims 2 and its website.

The shutdowns have actually been ongoing for a couple of months. October saw online service closures for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, Facebook game PGA Tour Challenge, while November saw an end to The Sims 3 Pets on consoles and The Simpsons: Tapped Out on older iDevices.

A full list of shuttered EA online services is available on the publisher’s service updates page, along with a couple of other December and January closures not as relevant to core gamers.

No, there’s not a new NBA Jam game coming. Shocking, I know.

  • EA Sports gauging interest in a new NBA Jam game

NBA Jam seems to be running over the minds of EA Sports right now, as it’s gauging interest in a new addition to the series on Twitter. It’s a short one, but it came from an ominous tweet from the publisher: Retweet if you’re ready for a new NBA JAM! — EA SPORTS (@nbajam) February […]
