Shinji Mikami to form new studio

Shinji Mikami

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has revealed he's to form a new studio in Tokyo after the release of his latest game, Vanquish.

Speaking in this week's issue of Famitsu (via 1UP), he said he will wrap up his present Osaka-based company, Straight Story, after he releases the third-person shooter sometime this winter.

"One of the reasons I'm building a company is to raise the game makers of the future, people who haven't gone pro yet," said Mikami.

"Game development is often overseen from a pure business perspective here, which is unique to Japan, and I have the impression that environment tends to prune away young talent."

He also said the new studio hasn't "fully decided" what new game it'll be doing as its first game, although he has talked "with a numbers of publishers."
