Action, adventure, and Animal Crossing: that’s what Captain Rainbow’s made of

Nintendo’s latest in its “There’s no way that’s leaving Japan” label, Captain Rainbow, is only a few weeks away from its August 28 release date, so it’s high time we get some details. Luckily, Famitsu was happy to oblige.

According to 1UP’s translation, Captain Rainbow will be kind of like Animal Crossing, but more minigame-oriented. Assisting islanders earns you “kirarin,” which are “sparkling crystals” – a sort of currency, we’re guessing.

Says 1UP: “Collecting 20 of these sparkling crystals triggers a storm of falling stars and leads to an action sequence. Here, the Captain is on a side-scrolling chase for the falling star he needs to help fulfill the Mimin native's wishes... but he'll have to dodge the evil Shadows along the way, lest he fall victim to one and be forced to play another minigame to save his hide.”

Yeah, we’re not really sure what to think either. Anyone planning on importing this one?
