UK games sales down 30% in January to £59.2 million

MCV has posted ChartTrack’s monthly figures, it looks as though UK games sales were down 30% year-over-year for the month of January, with revenue coming in at £59.2 million.

UK game sales generated £27.7 million last week thanks to Gears 3, F1 2011

According to UKIE/Chart-Track and Intent Media figures, UK the games industry generated £27.7 million last week at retail, which is a 136 percent week-on-week increase and the second highest figure for the year. Last week, over 900,000 units of software were sold, which is up 74 percent over the prior week. Sales were largely driven by the release of F1 2011, and Gears of War 3 which debuted in first place on the UK charts. Thanks, MCV.

UK games market up 16% thanks to Wii Sports Resort

Weekly values for the UK games market were up 16 percent thanks to Wii Sports Resort.

According a report from MCV, Gfk-ChartTrack/ELSPA figures show a market jump from £16.9 million week ending July 10 to £18.6 million for week ending July 25 with unit sales hitting 907,501.

Currently, sales figures are down two percent to £18.3 million, with unit sales up two percent to 923,204.

Upcoming games for August include Batman Arkham Asylum, Wolfenstein and Ashes Cricket 2009 with September promising The Beatles: Rock Band, Halo 3: ODST, Professor Layton And Pandora’s Box, Need For Speed Shift and Dirt 2.

Looks like September will be a decent month.
