The World Ends With You’s mysterious countdown disappointed those hoping for more than an iOS re-release, but director Tatsuya Kando has asked fans to stay tuned. While not making any promises, the developer told Famitsu, via Andriasang, that he has a “variety of other things” planned, and said Solo Remix is more than just a port. He also hinted gently that the iOS release’s reception may influence the chances of additional content, and ‘expand the world further’. Hmm. The World Ends With You: Solo Remix is available now on iPhone and iPad.

Tetsuya Nomura has hinted that a sequel to The World Ends With You may be coming in the not-so-distant future. Speaking in the latest issue of Nintendo Dream, Nomura was discussing the cameo appearances in Kingdom Hearts 3D, saying providing the Raimu/Rhyme character with a voice in the game was “out of consideration of the future of The World Ends With You series.” Normally, she only makes noises out of reaction, but never really speaks. When asked about his hint, Nomura said he was unable to “say anything at present, but there probably is something.” One can hope. Thanks, Andriasang.

As you can see after the link, Square’s The World Ends With You, it’s first contemporary RPG, is more than a little bonkers. The DS title apparently releases in Europe on April 28. We might do impressions of this one.

Square Enix just confirmed that The World Ends With You – Subarashiki Kono Sekai in Japan – will release in Europe on April 18. The company’s making a “thing” of the fact the DS RPG is set in modern times, the first Square game to be so, apparently.

“Square Enix has traditionally been associated with RPG’s set in fantasy lands, but THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU is our first ever game to be set in modern times and real-life locations,” said the publisher’s super-boss, John Yamamoto. “We believe gamers of all ages and abilities will be able to enjoy all that THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU has to offer.”

There’s no need to shout. Keep an eye out for it next month.
