Phoenix Wright landing on WiiWare in January

phoenixwright

Looks like – for the time being – Phoenix Wright has flown the DS’ coop. Starting in January, three of his finger-pointing-est adventures are getting the thumbs up from Nintendo to appear on WiiWare.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney’s taking the stand in January, with Justice for All and Trials and Tribulations coming in March and May, respectively. They’re going for 1,000 Wii Points a piece.

“Rise from the Ashes,” a bonus case added to the DS version of Ace Attourney, will also drop in May, for a mere 100 Wii Points.

Be warned, though: these are ports of the quick and dirty variety. Same graphics, same sound effects – even a constrained 4:3 resolution! You can flail the Wii-Mote like a complete loon when you’re objecting, though, and that’s certainly worth the full price of admission in our books.

Check out a few screens over at Joystiq.

Rumor: Phoenix Wright Wii-bound?

phoenixwright

Wii-mote straps at the ready, people. Otherwise, you might just “Objection” point your controller clean through your TV screen. That is, if a listing from the German USK rating system is to be believed.

The listing says Phoenix Wright is coming to the Wii. That’s all, though. No release date. No details. And, in typical German fashion, it’s not even in English! The nerve!

We’ll shoot an email over to Capcom and see what’s what.

Thanks, GamerBytes.

Non-handheld Phoenix Wright? Nah, says Ace Attorney producer

phoenix-wright-3

We’ve got a crime on our hands, and it looks like it’ll stay that way for the foreseeable future. Speaking with Siliconera, producer Motohide Eshiro was quite blunt.

“Right now, we have no plans to make ports for any other hardware,” he said.

“It’s not that we don’t like other hardware and that we don’t want to do it. It’s just it was original made for handhelds, it was made to be played on the go, and also the interface we created the game, especially for Ace Attorney Investigations, uses the touch screen and we want people to interact with that. You can’t replicate that on Xbox Live. For us, the DS seems like the most natural fit,” he explained.

Being the savvy lawyer that he is, Phoenix tried to take advantage of a loophole in the form of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. It didn’t work.

Phoenix Wright vs. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom – what happened?

phoenixwright

According to an NGamer article (via GoNintendo), Phoenix Wright was originally slated to apply his brand of word-fu to the fisticuffs of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. However, the iron-willed lawyer didn’t make the cut. Why not? Ryota Niitsuma, producer on Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, explained.

“Because Phoenix Wright only has one move, ‘Objection,’ we struggled. We designed a move for him: when he says objection, the actual writing attacks the opponent,” he said.

“However, ‘objection’ in Japanese is ‘igiari’ – it’s four characters, whereas ‘objection’ becomes ten. When we localize, the balance of the game gets destroyed because the move becomes bigger. There’d be no way of avoiding it! We had to remove [Phoenix] for these reasons. In the future, it is one of our aims to get him in.”

So now you know.

Direct feed Miles Edgeworth: Perfect Prosecutor shots

They’re on DS Fanboy. Looks like Phoenix Wright but with a redder suit. Apparently you can walk around while you’re doing your investigating in this one, though. We’re not sure if that’s good or not. Official site here, and no news on a European release as yet.

It’s here, for those of you getting excited about playing as the guy with the ruff. The Phoenix Wright spin off has attracted a good amount of attention since it launched this week, so hopefully we’ll have a release date soon. There’s not much on the site a[art from a few bits of art, but it looks pretty, and looking pretty is important. So take a look.
