GDC: Kojima will make no game reveal in today’s keynote

kojima2

Just in case there was any ambiguity about the Kojima comment IGN posted up last night about the developer preparing to announce a game at E3, 1UP’s dispelled it: there will be no Kojima game reveal in his keynote at GDC today.

“I’m not going to be talking about new titles or anything,” he said in an interview yesterday.

“I’ll leave that for sometime later.”

Don’t worry, though. His speech is going to be a riot.

“Since it’s a keynote and since we’re in the entertainment business, I try to make my presentations as entertaining as possible,” he said.

So. How much are flights to LA again?

GDC: Report – Iwata to announce new Wii, WiiWare and VC games in keynote

nintendologoa

Hot dog. 1UP’s Sam Kennedy reckons Satoru Iwata’s going to announce “quite a few” new games in his GDC keynote tomorrow.

From his blog:

In terms of highlights coming out of this show, I’d say Nintendo’s Iwata keynote is the one that you’ll really want to watch (Jeremy will be live blogging it tomorrow morning). I thought he was just going to be talking about Motion Plus and DSi, but it turns out he’s going to be announcing quite a few new games — for Wii, Wiiware, and Virtual Console (and this won’t just be Nintendo titles, but also third party stuff). I’ve already heard about a few of them (including one that makes me all giddy… I can’t wait for tomorrow now).

IGN said today that press are being restricted from filming after the first five minutes of the speech, which certainly indicates we’re about to see far more than a MotionPlus display.

Remember: we’ll be liveblogging it. It starts at 9.00am PST, or 4.00pm GMT if you’re on the other side of the Atlantic.

Valve boss Gabe Newell will deliver DICE’s keynote address, the show’s announced.

No details of the talk have been given, unfortunately, so it remains title-less.

TGS: “Riled” Schappert goes on offensive against “innovation criticism”

johnschappert.jpg

Xbox Live boss John Schappert has reacted sternly to accusations that Microsoft is a follower as opposed to a leader in the console innovation space, saying he finds the notion “ironic” and that he gets “riled” by the idea.

“The innovation criticism is almost ironic to me,” he told Eurogamer. “You’ve got the Xbox, which is the console that pioneered hard drives, broadband gaming, online gaming, Achievements and gamercards.

“It’s the console that arguably pioneered first-person shooters in your living room, wireless controllers… I could go on.

“I think we’ve earned our chops in terms of innovation. The games division has some brilliant people who have done amazing things, and who have shaped the industry forever. I think we’ve done a great job of innovating and we continue to lead.”

And don’t say Avatars are ripped off Miis, for God’s sake.

“With respect to Avatars – Miis are wonderful,” he added. “Nintendo has done great things.

“But Avatars are just a logical extension of what we’ve had already. We’ve had a gamercard and a gamer pic; I want to take that to the next level. Now we’ve got Live parties, we launched the first video store…

“So I get a little riled there. I think we’ve done some great things for the industry and for gamers.”

Plenty more through there.

Microsoft raising Xbox 360 forecasts in Japan

xbox360logo4.jpg

Speaking to Reuters in Tokyo today, Xbox Live boss John Schappert has confirmed that Microsoft is raising its 360 hardware forecasts in Japan.

“We’ve done better than we forecast. We are finding that we have a shortage of hardware,” he said.

“We are raising our forecast” for Xbox 360 hardware shipments to Japan, he added, though he declined to give specific figures.

Schappert delivered Microsoft’s keynote at TGS today, all the news from which you can find here.
