Deloitte Ireland has been appointed as the receiver of HMV Ireland, meaning 300 jobs are at risk in the sector. Earlier today, HMV stores in the country were closed temporarily without an explanation, and will remain closed until Deloitte Ireland “assesses the viability of the company,” reports Eurogamer. The firm said it will be searching to find a buyer for the business. The site notes that HMV in Ireland is a separate entity to the UK business, which wasn’t thought to be going into administration with the rest of HMV as of yesterday.

Begbies Traynor, a business recovery firm, estimates that 140 UK retailers are currently in “critical condition”.

CVG reports UK retail chain HMV has listed the newly-announced 3DS XL at £179.99. Other retailers have nominated similar price points but expect to make a loss; Zavvi’s gone for a significantly higher £210. HMV has reported a sales loss of 18.3% for the year ending April 2, 2012. The entertainment chain said final debt for FY2011 would come in at £168 million, Retail reported a loss of 19.4%, despite a small 5.4% intake of live sales. The games division was seen as a growth area following GAME’s recent troubles, citing a recent market share increase.

HMV games boss Tim Ellis has said yesterday’s announcement of Grand Theft Auto V will bring a new boost to the market. Ellis told MCV a new GTA launch is “a fantastic development that would inject huge excitement into the games market for fans, retailers and media alike,” adding Rockstar would “face the challenge of delivering another brilliant game that’s as good if not better than anything we’ve seen before.”

GTA V’s first trailer airs next Tuesday at 6pm BST.

According to several posts on Hot UK Deals, HMV is offering Batman: Arkham City for 99p with trade-ins of Forza Motorsport 4 or RAGE.

The deal is said to include a T-shirt and lenticular cover, set to run for a week, and to be available at all stores, but it’s probably worth calling ahead of Friday’s launch.

Arkham City is out now in Australia and the US, although the PC version has been delayed into November in all territories.

EA’s dropped details of a tour around the UK at HMV Gamerbase, enabling Joe Public to go hands-on with Mass Effect 3, Need for Speed: The Run and FIFA 12. The tour kicks off tonight in Glasgow and continues in Edinburgh tomorrow, Manchester next Monday and Tuesday and concludes in London next Thursday and Friday. More details here.

FIFA 12 releases at the end of this month, while Need for Speed: The Run launches in mid-November. Mass Effect 3 releases in early March 2012.
