Assassin’s Creed II sells 1.6 million in one week
Assassin’s Creed 2 has sold an excellent 1.6 million units in its first week, Ubi just confirmed, with sales up 32 percent over the original game.
The title’s sitting pretty now, with little left to challenge it in the run-up to Christmas thanks to Modern Warfare 2′s scare tactics.
If you haven’t played it, you should. It’s awesome.

Uplay launches with Assassin’s Creed II
Ubisoft’s launched Uplay, a publisher-specific rewards program, alongside Assassin’s Creed II.
If you’ve been playing the game – it’s awesome: you should – you may have noticed the occassional “U” popping up as you going about your shit. It’s a system similar to Achievements and Trophies; you get points to spend in-game on weapons, skins, and so on, for completing “Actions”.
Check out all the available Actions and rewards here.
Only Assassin’s Creed II, Splinter Cell Conviction, and RUSE are compatible right now, and you don’t appear to be able to link your Gamertag or PSN ID with your Ubi profile, but it’s the thought that counts.
Take a look.

Picture proof that Splinter Cell: Conviction demo comes with ACII [Update]
Update: It seems to be for a instant download item you’d get, and not the demo. Flu: gotta love it.
Thanks, Slashgamer and DeforMAKulizer.
Original Story: GAF (via Joystiq) are showing what appears to be a voucher card for a demo of Splinter Cell: Conviction, which comes in every copy of Assassin’s Creed II.
According to folk on GAF, the code doesn’t seem to be unique, which means anyone can download the demo if they knew the code.
We just tried it there on the special website for the demo, but it doesn’t seem to be fully active until tomorrow, when the game releases in the US.

US PS Home: Assassin’s Creed, Final Fantasy XIII, Fullmetal Alchemist

This week on PS Home, the first full episode of Fullmetal Alchemist’s second season will be playing at the 10-Screen Theater for free until November 19.
There’s also a never-before-seen Final Fantasy XIII video airing tomorrow, Friday the 13th, which is more than likely the same video we mentioned to you yesterday. Probably.
Hilariously, A&E’s reality series Lawman gets an advanced screening on Home and you can even get a free virtual item – a Lawman Vest – just for walking your virtual self into the 10-Screen Theater. Never heard of the show? Well, it’s about policeman/actor Steven Seagal enforcing the law in New Orleans’ Jefferson Parish district. We’re snickering now.
One last thing, virtual Assassin’s Creed II items like hats, shirts, hoodies and wristbands are over in the Home Mall this week.
More information can be found over on the US PS Blog.

Assassin’s Creed II contains the phrase, “She cries as I fuck her”
Some headlines are born great. The ESRB’s detailed its M rating for Assassin’s Creed II, revealing some pretty special dialogue from the free-running sequel.
“Consumers may also wish to know that the game contains strong profanity, both in English and Italian (e.g., ‘f**k,’ ‘sh*t,’ ‘c*zzo,’ and ‘m*rda’); the most explicit instance occurs when a man frantically describes a ‘vision’ — ‘I’m at the opera . . . the soprano is so beautiful . . . I’m in bed with her, she cries as I f**k her.’”
There’s more. There’s a “Captain” in it that has “page-boy fantasies”.
“The game contains strong sexual overtones,” said the ratings board.
“During one ‘seduction mini-game,’ players are able to press buttons to kiss a woman and remove her dress; with the woman’s back facing the camera, the two characters lower to bed and blow out a candle. Some scenes take place inside brothels, though no nudity or sexual acts are depicted. The dialogue contains the following sexual references: ‘So the whip or the paddle today?’ and ‘Does your wife know about your page-boy fantasies, Captain?’”
You go, Mr Ubisoft. The game’s out next Tuesday for 360 and PS3.

Assassin’s Creed II developer diary talks voice acting

A new developer diary from Assassin’s Creed I & II scriptwriter Corey May was posted on IGN yesterday, and in it he chats about the voice recording process and all the work it entails.
He also mentions the voice actors, and few tidbits about them, some of which you may know already, and some you may not.
“We were fortunate to have our cast of present characters return for the sequel. Kristen Bell would play Lucy once more. Working with her was one of the highlights of the process for me. I was (and remain) a HUGE fan of Veronica Mars,” wrote May. “She’s got this amazing ability to blend sweetness with bad-assery which is exactly who Lucy is. You saw the sweetness in AC1 and you’ll see the bad-assery in AC2. She’s a phenomenal actress. Oh and just to clear up any confusion – Lucy is folding down her finger in the “reveal” scene in AC1 when she lets Desmond know she’s an Assassin. It hasn’t been cut off. So spread the word!
“Nolan North is back as Desmond. His mastery of deadpan humor is unmatched. And that’s important to me. Even in the direst of circumstances he finds a way to break the tension. A little bit of self-referential humor helps to keep Assassin’s Creed from feeling overly melodramatic (and you’ll notice quite a bit of that in the past segments of the game now as well).
“Phil Proctor also returns as Warren Vidic, So there’s a tiny spoiler for you.”

Xbox 360 owners defecting to PS3 for major holiday purchases, says OTX report

Gamasutra‘s carrying a report from OTX’s Gameplan Insights that might just signal a changing of the multiplatform guard. Where once Microsoft took the meat and Sony choked down the gristle, things look to be flipping – starting with Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed II.
According to OTX analyst Nick Williams, the two titles – which are the top-ranking games on OTX’s purchase intent charts – have PS3 owners ready to leave their Xboxes out in the cold. More specifically, 15 percent of players who plan to purchase the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed II own a copy of the original stab-happy adventure on the Xbox 360.
Meanwhile, only seven percent of those who’ve prepped a place for Ezio on their Xbox 360s own the PS3 version of the original.
While Williams didn’t provide numbers for Modern Warfare 2, the story remains the same. “The PS3 seems poised to shift the ratio of Xbox 360 to PS3 sales for most major multi-platform releases in its favor among dual owners,” he said.

Ubisoft: Preorders for Assassin’s Creed II up 80% over original

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has revealed that preorder numbers for Assassin’s Creed II are up 80 percent compared to the original, which is in stark contrast to Monday’s report from Janco analyst Mike Hikey, citing preorders for the sequel were up 10-20 percent on the original.
This bit was revealed during Ubisoft’s financial call to investors, along with the news that the company expects 15-25 percent higher total sales of the sequel.
Guillemot also said that Ubisoft and Sony signed a television marketing deal this year, which means that TV spots featuring the game will be PS3centric only.
Take that other formats, we reckon.
