Analyst expects two more DLC packages for GTA IV during fiscal 2010

Todd Mitchell, analyst for Kaufman Bros. Equity Research, expects Take-Two and Rockstar to release two new episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV in fiscal 2010, GTA V in fiscal 2011, and a new GTA title for PS2 next year.
“I would expect that there would be two more pieces of downloadable content for GTA IV, that’s what has been indicated to me, although formats are unsure,” Mitchell told GI.biz. “It’s been indicated to me that would be the case.
“Coming out of E3 there was no commitment to a new Grand Theft Auto, and I think that’s because of Rockstar’s track record with delivering on time.
“Of the three, I’m least confident in saying for sure there will be a new GTA for PlayStation 2, but the track record shows that PSP titles have been repositioned [on PS2][Chinatown Wars for the PSP].”
Agent will be released in 2010, along with an unannounced title from 2K Games which along with BioShock 2 and Red Dead Redemption, Mitchell says Take-Two is now becoming a “proper company rather than a one hit wonder.”

Agent is “about espionage, set in the 1970s”

Agent, the PS3 “exclusive” Take-Two announced in Sony’s press conference at E3, is set in the 70s, Take-Two boss Ben Feder’s told EG.
“It’s a completely different storyline, there is completely different character development,” the exec said of the title’s similarities to GTA.
“It’s a game about espionage, set in the 1970s. GTA is obviously more about an urban experience, a typically rags to riches experience. Very, very different storylines, very different character development. It’s going to be very fresh for gamers.”
Feder refused to flesh out what the firm meant by the term “exclusive” in regards to Agent.
“These are all relationship matters and contractual matters,” he said. “When we talk about our relationships and our exclusivity for PS3 and Agent, for example, we don’t disclose anything beyond what we’ve already said.
“But we think it’s important for us to be with Sony, and it’s important for Sony, I think, to be with us. The game promises to be one of the best games available because of who’s developing it, and because of the subject matter.”

Feder – PS3 exclusivity will “help launch” Agent

Take-Two boss Ben Feder has explained the reasoning at announcing Agent as a PS3 exclusive at E3, citing timed GTA PS2 exclusives as examples of how the strategy can work for a franchise.
“The trade-offs a publisher will typically make is, if you’re platform-agnostic, you get a larger installed base,” he said, speaking to Gamespot on the E3 showfloor. “You’re platform exclusive when you get the right kind of support from first parties.”
Feder said he believed Sony will offer the same kind of support that made GTAIII, Vice City, and San Andreas – all initially PlayStation 2 exclusives – three of the top 10 selling games of all time.
Said Feder, “At this phase in the cycle, when you’re trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can really help you launch the franchise. It can give you the kind of platform that you need to start exclusive, start in the right kind of way with the right kind of partner. Exclusivity does work.”

Take Two president talks Agent exclusivity to PS3

Agent was announced by Rockstar at Sony’s E3 event this week, and Take-Two president Ben Feder seems confident about the the game being a PS3 exclusive.
“At this phase in the cycle, when you’re trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can really help you launch the franchise”, he told Gamespot. ‘It can give you the kind of platform that you need to start exclusive, start in the right kind of way with the right kind of partner. Exclusivity does work.
“I have a lot of confidence in Sony. I have a lot of confidence in their ability to lead the market, as they always have,” he added. “Their console is a terrific platform to be developing for, and Agent is a great testament as to our belief in what that platform can do, and what they can do with us as part of a partnership.”
He also thinks that the game as a whole is going to be rather fantastic.
“We think this has the potential to be yet another great Rockstar North franchise title. … It’s the Houser Brothers and Rockstar North. It’s the A team working on an AAA title. I think the subject matter, the characters, the story, the environment, the background–all the elements are there. It’s such a rich environment to play in.”
Sounds groovy.
