Some new screens and a video showing the wolf mount for Age of Conan’s Rise of the Godslayer expansion were released by Funcom this week.

Come back to Conan, get Beta access to The Secret World

Funcom has announced plans to get lure players back to Age of Conan with not only multi-month subscription rates and the new expansion, but Beta access to The Secret World when it goes live.
Here’s the deal:
- 3-month sub: Beta access to The Secret World
- 6-month sub: Beta access + in-game helmet that boosts experience gain by 10 percent
- 12-month sub: Beta access + helmet + a free copy of Conan expansion Rise of the Godslayer
“We know that coming back to a massively multiplayer online game demands effort, so for us it’s all about making it worthwhile for former players to come back,” Erling Ellingsen told Eurogamer. “With all the improvements having been introduced to the game, we’re eager to have as many former players as possible be exposed to all the updates.
“So for returning players we’re offering two weeks free game time, and the ability to level up twice as fast as normal. It is natural for any subscription business to incentivize longer-term subscriptions in order to ensure a long-term relationship with the player.”
The new expansion, Rise of the Godslayer, will include a new Asian-themed area of Khitai along with its playable race, the Khitan and the chance to raise tigers and wolves from cubs into mounts when it goes live in 2010.

Weekly MMO news round-up: Chinese gender-bending, Aion changes, Star Trek, AoC

This was a rather large week in MMOs as far as news went, and not all of it was Halloween related.
Past the break you will hear all about how Ultima Online is still going strong, get familiarized with the new patch for Aion, read up on Cryptic’s Blood Moon event via a dev chat, PvP henchmen and Guild Wars, Alganon’s delay, China’s ban on males playing females in games, and many other bits of stuff that didn’t hit the front page during the week.
Also, we hope everyone who plays MMOs enjoyed the Halloween and Fall festivities that their particular favorites hosted. Loads had celebrations, more than likely every single one of ‘em. If we forgot to mention your particular game, head on over to the list through the link ther and add it in the comments section so that we may give it its proper shout-out.

The Iron Tower and veteran rewards program annouced for Age of Conan

Looks like a new level 80 dungeon, the Iron Tower, and a veteran rewards program is heading to Age of Conan.
This bit of good news was revealed in the latest director’s letter on the official site.
The veteran rewards program uses “veteran points” – instead of a reward per-month interval system – with monthly points that can either be saved or spent via a new veteran reward shop. One of these rewards is an item that summons Casilda, the slave from the tutorial whose boobs shake, to “cheer you on as you fight things”.
As far as the new dungeon is concerned, the Iron Tower is a team effort that is loaded to the gills with Aquilonia criminals, five different bosses, four mini-bosses, and possibly a rare boss.
Good to know that more stuff is headed Hyboria’s way.
Thanks, Massively.

Weekly MMO news round-up: Trouble Edition

It’s Saturday again, and time for your dose of MMO news.
This one has been branded the “trouble” edition, because certain MMOS were either in trouble, or getting out of it this week.
First off, Stargate Worlds is rumored to be in massive trouble, Age of Conan isn’t in as much any more, and China has ungrounded World of Warcraft but only a tiny bit. It can still go out on dates, but not whore about the countryside like it had been doing. What a tart.
Other than those bits, the week in MMOs was a bit uneventful. Yeah sure, the major news hit the front page as usual, but there are a few things you may want to know about that didn’t. For that, and the rest of it, along with a song devoted to Second Life, read on below.

Funcom has turned Age of Conan around, says CEO

Funcom’s CEO Trond Arne Aas has said that Age of Conan has been turned around by the company and because of this, players are returning and server activity has increased.
“The problems for Age of Conan arose after the game had been live for a period of time, as players progressed into parts of the game where content turned out to be too thin and advanced features simply weren’t good enough,” the CEO told GI.biz. “There were also performance issues on some machines, and the items and RPG system – even though it worked exactly as we designed it – did not engage players for as long as we had hoped for.”
“We have turned most if not all of this around and we have corrected these issues through a series of massive updates. For us it was never an option to drop the game despite the challenges we faced.
“I can say that we have seen very positive trends in subscription longevity and server activity, and I think this is proof that we are turning around the fortune of Age of Conan.”
