Abzû seems a lot like an underwater Journey in this gameplay trailer

Love Journey? Wish there was a sequel? You're in luck.

It's no surprise that underwater adventure Abzû looks like Journey, despite the extreme opposites of their settings; it comes to us courtesy of Giant Squid, a studio founded by former thatgamecompany art director Matt Nava.

Nava was responsible for both Flower and Journey, and as such his work helped define the studio. Some of what we think of as thatgamecompany's style is instead inherent to Nava.

But even with that in mind: wow, it just really, really looks like Journey. This new trailer is the first to show more than a few snippets of gameplay at a time, so we finally have an idea of what it might be like to play. The answer, from all appearances, is "pretty much Journey but swimming".

I'm not even mad. Although I doubt there's any way I could have as emotional an experience as I had the first time I played Journey (I started crying a long time before the ending), I definitely wouldn't say no to a similar exploration game.

I could be jumping to conclusions here; I guess we'll know for sure when Abzû releases in August for PC and PS4.
