Star Wars: Republic Commando would have told the Rebellion's origin story

Star Wars: Republic Commando fans can finally find out what happened to Sev.

Remember Star Wars: Republic Commando? The 2005 PC and Xbox shooter was fairly well-received and sucked players in with its characters and narrative, while the semi-cliffhanger ending left us in expectation of a sequel.

It did not materialise and almost certainly never will, but former LucasArts staffer Brett Douville has revealed some details of the planned follow-ups plot to Cinelinx.

According to Douville's account the team had two separate ideas for the sequel's plot. One would have had players hunting down Jedi for Order 66 in a Revenge of the Sith side story. The other starred returning character Sev as the very first soldier in the army later known as the Rebellion.

"[The] plan would have had Sev start the Rebellion army, training a new generation of soldiers to fight the Empire," the developer said.

"In my own imagining, I like to believe he'd go after his pod-brothers and counter-program them so they could fight the Empire together."

Douville didn't know what fate the other pitch had in store for Sev, whose fate is in question at the end of Republic Commando, but said he'd like to believe players would have embarked on a rescue mission to find the lost member of Delta Squad.

Plans for the sequel were axed when LucasArts went through a bit of a reboot; very few of the Republic Commando team stuck around, Douville said. Even had they still been keen, the Disney Lucasfilm buyout resulted in a reboot of the Extended Universe, rendering most past games (and almost everything else bar the films) non-canonical; it's unlikely the threads will ever be picked up.
