The update adds a number of much-requested features:

  • Media Player app with support for USB devices and more file formats.
  • The addition of a "leader" feature to the Party App.
  • The ability to post statuses and comments from SmartGlass apps.
  • OneGuide and voice support in more territories.

And much more - check the full update notes for more information.

Microsoft announced the new Xbox One update earlier this month, but even if you missed the details, you ought to have twigged to the fact that something had changed now that Destiny is available for pre-loading.

Pat got a preview of this update at gamescom 2014, and he was pretty convinced it marks a turning point for the Xbox One's much-criticised UI.

The update is rolling out across the world now, so stand by for a few hours if it hasn't yet graced your dashboard.
