Will the dream of a new Tenchu game finally become reality?

It’s a bit of a reach, but From Software wants to expand its portfolio of games – could we finally get a Tenchu reboot?

According to an interview with Famitsu, as detailed by Siliconera, president of From Software Hidetaka Miyazaki has said he wants to create more Japanese-style video games.

As well as Dark Souls, From Software has also created Armored Core, Otogi and Tenchu.

Could we see From Software return to some of these beloved classics? With interest in the developer at an all-time high, it’s in a good position to revisit fan-favourites and deliver them to its new audience post-Dark Souls.

“The steady flow of dark fantasy games and mecha are something we’d like to continue taking good care of,” said Miyazaki.

“Mecha” equals Armored Core. And Tenchu, as well as the feudal Japan setting, also had a “dark fantasy” vibe using mystical and supernatural characters and opponents.

Here’s hoping. Fingers crossed.

This is what I love about gaming Journalism. Very fast to forget…. From Software did revisit the series. 2006 and 2008. Both terrible. What makes you think another will be a smart thing to do?!

The irony is, it’s a series thats dated. The idea of revisiting it sounds cool, but they’ve tried it and it didn’t work. Lets all hope they make an entirely new IP.

I’d rather have more Otogi, the 2nd one in particular was awesome.

I actually liked the gameplay in Tenchu Z the most. Finally felt like playing an actual ninja and not some tank.

They also did a cool little Survival Horror game called Kuon back in 2004. It was a dark fantasy affair, set in the Heian Period with an Onmyōdō occultism vibe.

It wasn’t without it’s issues, namely a reliance on slow but IMO creepy and suspenseful gameplay but it’s easily one of my favourite survival horror games ever. Utterly disturbing in places and truly dark – as you’d expect from From Software.

I doubt very much it will ever be revisited but by god if it ever was, I would buy the ever loving crap out of it.

Have a look at Shinobido 2 on the Vita and you’ll soon U-turn on this.

You may as well just say ‘hey a stealth ninja game please’

@aseddon130 it’s too simple with outdated stealth mechanics and poor AI. It’s not really a stealth game.
