Cliffy B’s new game is a free-to-play shooter. Wait, come back!

Tuesday, 8th July 2014 20:31 GMT By Matt Martin

Clifford B. Leszinski’s new game is, inevitably, a free-to-play shooter. It will be published by Nexon.

Codenamed Blue Streak, Nexon liked it so much they’ve bought a little bit of Bleszinski’s new company, Boss Key.

According to the man himself it’s a PC sci-fi arena shooter. That’s all he’s giving away for now, expect more tomorrow.

I actually like Cliffy’s games. He’s a good designer. When he talks about game design he’s very eloquent and makes some very interesting points.

And then he talks about how to pick up chicks and stuff on his blog and undoes all the good work.

@Matt Martin Or tries to justify things like Microsoft’s original XBox One DRM policies because he cares more about ending used game sales than basic sales rights or how much those policies can screw over consumers and even the games themselves in the future. Things like that don’t really help.

Great headline, I actually came back ;).

At Topic: This smells like a fuckton of Microtransactions, since he really seems to like these. I hope I’m wrong because his games aren’t at all. But it’s PC-only for now I guess, so not for me anyway :).

YES. Cliffy B makes his own Unreal tournament. I hope that’s true. I’m ok if it is F2P as long as it is good as TRIBES:ASCEND

Hey Cliffy…Remember that Xbox One DRM support you had…. So do I…
You would have to make one amazing game for me to care now.

    lol talk about 3 strikes.

    Cliffy B. Strike one.
    Free to play. Strike two.
    Nexon. Strike three.

To be fair, I don’t hate Nexon, and I loved the Dragon Nest game. I just hate how everything is $$$$$ with them and service is wonky. Free to play can die in a fire, and Cliffy is just annoying. Highly skeptical of this, but won’t call DOOM on it completely yet.

What? How is this not Unreal Tournament?
Returning to your roots, are ya, Cliffy?..

What is with that Cliffy B photo? I’ve seen kindergarten students who can’t remember how to spell their name do the exact same thing.

Hey look! Another talent wasted (Though I hear Guerrilla Games co-founder is also involved so this is a double waste).
    Who’s next?

To be fair though, at least it’s not a browser based or iPhone game.

What? No The Wulf lauding how great cliffy B is? Oh look he is bowing down to all those dirty disgusting extroverts.

    I am disappoint.

I can’t believe no one mentioned Quake Live. Quake Live is that and it’s absolutely brilliant. I mean, sure, there may be exploitation in the model, but we can’t say that until we’ve actually seen it. If there wasn’t a precedent in place all ready (Quake Live) for a free to play shooter without exploitative elements, then perhaps I’d be inclined to be suspicious of this. But having played the rather sublime Quake Live, I have to say that I’m still interested.

If there’s a hint of exploitation though? Fuck it, I have better things to do. But right now, until we have that information, I’m actually going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Wait and see, innocent until proven guilty and all that, yes? Yes?

Yeah, that’s true. But I think that’s who he was. From what I’ve been seeing of him in interviews and on Twitter, I think he’s had some mid life crisis and decided that there might actually be more important things than money. If he’s just after the money again, then I’ll find him very forgettable, but if he’s actually trying to do something memorable for the first time in a decade…

I don’t know. I just want to give him the benefit of the doubt, just this once.

That is a fair point and a cause for worry, and it’s why I’m on the fence, but if he can get back to doing what he does best and he retains control enough so that it isn’t riddled with microtransactions…

Like I said — there’s a way to do this right, Quake Live leads the way. I’d love to see a UT game done in the style of Quake Live (which is really quite good).

Unreal is his roots. It’s the first game he made after being independent, so he’s attached to it.

Wow. My efforts to make more extroverted, straight, white arseholes feel like they tend to make other people feel is actually having an effect. Look at that knee jerk reaction. Beautiful.

Thanks for reaffirming that I’m doing the right thing.

What? No The Wulf lauding how great cliffy B is?

Never did I do that, silly. I’d advise a little bit of this, going forward. I’ve always had my doubts, all I’ve said at any point is that I’m happy to see him return to his roots. That he might have found value in something other than money.

That’s not lauding his greatness, that’s noting that he might have found his own redemption, and those are two very different things. But this wouldn’t be the first time that VG24/7 has had someone commenting who doesn’t understand how to use their words. Quality over quantity. Having a large lexicon of the English language is fairly meaningless if you don’t understand how to use it.

    It’s like having a database that’s been partially triple-encrypted.

I’m not sure that you actually could give a care about looking intelligent on the Internet, though, as that’s not a high priority to you, is it? You’re far too shallow of a person to ever care about something like that.

Oh look he is bowing down to all those dirty disgusting extroverts.

Not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion, snacky. Twitch shooters were from the period of the industry before the appeal to extroversion ever occurred. That is, of course, unless you’re willing to say that Warsow is the kind of game that extroverts sit down to play at their couches with their beers.

    Hint: It isn’t.

He’s clearly making a twitch shooter, that much has been obvious for quite some time, since there have been rumours about such. I wasn’t at all surprised by this announcement. Caught off guard by the free-to-play aspect, yes, but considering that a precedent for good free to play shooters exists (as I mentioned), I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

You need to understand the difference between your exaggerated, offended reading between the lines and what I’ve actually said. The thing is, I’ve been actively trying to offend you and make you read between the lines, so extroverts like you will make these hilariously over-exaggerated posts, showing their butt-hurt to the world. Now you know how it feels when other people are exposed to your excessively shallow sexism, racism, homophobia, et cetera.

You might want to take that feeling to heart.

But back on topic, flawed logic founded on a lack of insight isn’t an entirely uncommon factor of extraversion, now is it, hm? Your capacity for insight is about the same as your capacity for self, it only goes skin deep, so you can’t actually parse me any further than that. Of course you’re going to react the way you do.

It’s the only way you can react. It’s interesting to watch you dance on my petri dish, though not surprising.

    I am disappoint.

Me too. I keep hoping for some introspection from one of you. To realise just what I’ve been up to. But here you are, with your privilege, being so offended that I’ve dared to speak ill of your ilk. So shallow. Really.

Do you ever think? It’s an honest question, asked in earnest. Is there no period where you spend some time quietly parsing all you’ve been presented with, to try and better understand the reality around you? To better understand the people around you? Is there any point in your life where you’ve actually engaged in any amount of introspection?

It’s just that I pity you, I guess. As a being of depth, with the capacity for introspection, it’s always sad to see people so shallow that you can’t ever get them to realise their own flaws. Even when you hold a mirror up to them.

“’m not sure that you actually could give a care about looking intelligent on the Internet, though, as that’s not a high priority to you, is it? You’re far too shallow of a person to ever care about something like that.”

Haha Shallow? Really? You’re right I don’t care how I look on a video game site comment section. I don’t need to prove my worth to you or anyone on this site.

You keep on jerking your ego and showing how big it is to everyone on the internet. I have shit to do.
