Microsoft's new CEO won't be Alan Mulally

Ford CEO Alan Mulally has confirmed he is not jumping ship to Microsoft take over from Steve Ballmer, who will step down by August 2014 at the latest.

According to an Associated Press report, via Business Insider, Mulally will remain at Ford through to the end of 2014 at least.

The executive is one of a field of candidates which had been narrowed down to less than 20 before the end of 2013, with the board expecting a final decision soon.

Rumour has it only four names are on the table, with CISCO and eBay executives in the running.
