PS4: Sony aware of log-in issues as influx of European players begins

Friday, 29th November 2013 16:34 GMT By Dave Cook

PlayStation 4 launched in Europe today, and with it a torrent of new European players. Sony has recognised that some users are experiencing difficulty logging into PSN, and is looking into the matter.

Sony just tweeted the following:

Did you get a PS4 today? Are you experiencing log-in trouble? Let us know below.

I’m one of the unfortunate few. Liking the console so far though, i think the touchpad is a better gimmick than Kinect personally.

How could they not be ready for this? Didn’t they know that the PS4 was releasing this November? PS4 released in NA: PSN goes down. PS4 released in EU: PSN goes down. Will the same thing happen when it releases in Japan?

Haha great, this site’s Sony fanboys I say to you, karma is a bitch.

@12 Shouldn’t you be watching NFL?

    #13 1 year ago
  14. Ireland Michael

@11 If it’s the same offline account, they should travel over.

@12 Oh no, a server is being mildly overloaded during a major hardware launch. It’s so terrible! I don’t know how I will ever recover from this minor inconvenience!

    Bored, much?

  15. polygem

haha…yeah fuck me i’m trolling ya all!

can’t log in at all. sucks.

i like the console design and the controller, what i’ve played this far (single player killzone, bf4, nfs) was pretty disappointing tbh. really can’t recommend any of these games yet. resogun is fun but no wow experience either.
no blacklight in the german shop and warframe costs 0,49? cents. haha, bollocks.

i kind of expected all that though.

would love to play some bf online ffs!

still very optimistic about the console itself and the potential…i just wish i would’ve bought mario for the weekend as well :)

  16. tenthousandgothsonacid

    Resogun is flipping awesome :)

Signed in at 2pm and I’m never switching this ps4 off :)

More people than they expected and can cope with. What a nice problem to have – as the XB1 peers through the PS’ living room window from the cold, wet outside….

Logged in once but couldn’t finish the initial sign in. This must annoying thing is it doesn’t save the credentials and my password is complex

@14 Clearly not as bored as you playing that POS killzone on SINGLE player or you wouldn’t be on here.
Xbox one had a global release and everybody could get on so your point is?
If this was Xbox you’d all bash it but soon as it’s Sony you all go into damage control, hilarious.

@13 Yeah I could watch that right now, I’d just sign in.

Had great fun playing my xbox one online today:) hope you ps fellas can jump on tomorrow.

“@14 “Clearly not as bored as you playing that POS killzone on SINGLE player or you wouldn’t be on here.”

I don’t own any next gen hardware, and don’t plan to for at least a year.

“Xbox one had a global release and everybody could get on so your point is?”

    1) Microsoft has one of the largest network infrastructures in the world.

    2) PS4 sold more in one region at launch than the Xbox did worldwide. Now that it’s launched in Europe, the demand on top of that is going to put strain on any network service. It’ll be resolved as quickly as possible, and then nobody will even remember it happened.

    3) Live did actually go down at one point. I don’t remember for how long, but the demand was high enough to knock out even Microsoft’s network for a bit.

“If this was Xbox you’d all bash it but soon as it’s Sony you all go into damage control, hilarious.”

No I wouldn’t. When Live went down, I shrugged my shoulders and got on with my day. My primary console this gen was the Xbox 360. I have no hardware biases, unlike yourself, who for some inexplicable reason needs to justify their personal preferences but insulting people you don’t know and inanimate hardware you don’t like on the Internet.

Love the console, the controller is a massive improvement, the instant switching to home screen and back to game is brilliant, and Shadow Fall is beautiful but I’m not a massive FPS person.

I do want to sign in and get my PS+ games now :’) Hurry it up Sony.

    *I’M ONLINE :D

Other then a few short periods where PSN was unreachable, it’s been running great and downloads are super fast, plus Twitch streaming works awesome.

  25. polygem

yep, pretty stable now. first day was a pretty smooth experience overall. not feeling the software that much but these are launch games…i really dig the hardware!
the ui needs more customization options and the *bleep* sound needs to get toned down or changed :)
i switched it off, glad i had the option.
looking forward to the second wave of games.

I told you to go ‘steam’!!! ;)

the launch games really are weak. i don’t get the positive reviews for killzone for example tbh. to me it’s a 6 out of 10. i think polygons review was spot on. not sure if i will even finish it. so many design flaws. can’t be bothered with stuff like that. i said it before: sony has a first party software quality issue – and i mean it. they need to sort that out asap.

nfs’s tutorials are unacceptable. broken design. and you can’t even skip them. every time you can finally start racing a tutorial clip pops up to explain you stuff that doesn’t need to be explained. it’s insane! i really can’t tolerate stuff like that anymore.

bf is alright but really no must play. mp is fun as always but it has some bugs, especially in the audio department. those will prolly be fixed soon though.

i think i will buy cod now and play that one online until the good games arrive.
not expexting much from it either but it’s cod and a good game to get used to the controller.

will pick up a copy of mario 3d world as well while i’m at it.

i really like the system though. it’s not that i regret the purchase. i’m just not 23 anymore. it needs a better game to impress me. sorry.

I can’t play online as my 14 day trial code is useless (if you’ve had a trial before it doesn’t work) and my new 1 year card can’t be redeemed. Come on Sony – you’re making a rod for your backs.

Look at some of these desperate people on the comment section who hate on Sony and mention other things to fill their hatred lol

All my patience for the PS+ service and the upcoming things will be justified , its a matter of time , haters :)

  32. Arcnail

Wasn’t it expected that there would be a huge influx of people logging in? I’m mean I’m sure it’ll be fixed and I wouldn’t be mad had I bought one, but really.. of course there was going to be a shit load of players online. Duh.

@32 Obviously more than they expected. Nice problem to have, wouldn’t you say?

  34. RussellGorall

“We are aware of the issues”

Oh, thank Heavens. Then just forget that anyone has a problem, how rude of us!!!

Two days later, and I can’t even play Resogun for some reason.

I have a work around the PS redeem on PS4, all you need to do is redeem the ps4 code on your PS3 or Vita, then log into PS4 and download it.

Hope it helps a few of you.

So whats the verdict so far?
I actually done a thread saying 1 would fail.
Having followed folks impressions thus far on various sites I am starting to lean MS tbh.

It seems to be more innovative overall where 4 has stayed pretty safe.

I like the kinnect head tracking in bf4, and voice commands seem pretty responsive.
Gonna wait till after xmas to decide anyway but 360 was innovative for its time and 1 is looking fairly next gen thus far out of the 2 consoles.

@Reask, the X1 is trying something new by catering to the college student that loves shooting, racing and sports. It plays on the lazy to leave the couch to do anything guy by going a level higher and being to lazy to use the renote control to change the input or channel. Imagine if MS had used that investment to beef up the machine.

Now the ps4 is a huge improvement over the ps3 on social capabilities. This pleases ps3 owners but doesn’t do much for the X1 owners. The system itself is slightly better than competition and cheaper. It will offer a huge amount of genre varieties (don’t need to debate this, we know sony does) as well as having gaikai offer something knew if it works out.

The competition is healthy but it is actually helping sony bring in more people because they are offering more with ps+ and more focused on games.

Don’t forget that X1 is limited outside North America

    #37 1 year ago

Right now, for me, it looks like Titanfall is going to win it for the X1 over the next year or two.

People will probably come up with a list of Sony exclusives, talk about Destiny, and say that Titanfall looks unoriginal, or whatever, but there are many, many shooter fans out there, chomping at the proverbial bit for this game.

Going by the tons of awards that it’s already won since it was unveiled, an amount of awards that no other upcoming game can come close to matching, the history of the developer, the dedicated servers, and the fact that more and more people are becoming dissatisfied with CoD, Titanfall looks like being the only must-have AAA console game coming out in the next couple of years.

Honestly, this is the only thing that’s stopping me from forgetting the X1 entirely, and going PS4, right now.

If TF is going to win it for the XB1 then on current trend it is going to need to sell about 3 million consoles on its own just to catch up level. Of course, you have to account for how many people banking on the game already bought an XB1 and therefore the extra interest is already in the week 1 figures. If so, MS might have to think of a big price cut by the time the game goes to retail.

Then again, you could just look at the Amazon US and UK charts and see if all that hype is actually reflected in a decent number of preorders.

  40. reask

    Nah its more than tf.
Once the initial hype of the launches are over folks are going to reflect on reality.

Titanfall looks good but it will be on PC and Xbox 360 along with Xbox One. So there is little reason to jump in to buy a 500$ device for a cross gen game unless the 360 version will be stripped of core gameplay but Respawn has denied doing that. I am sure it will be plenty friendly with requirements for PC as well considering its using Source.
