Tales PS4 games in the works, “no plans” for Xbox One

Thursday, 14th November 2013 23:25 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Namco Bandia’s Tales series is already on the way to PS4, but is not expected to appear on the Xbox One.

The platform exclusivity news comes from series producer Hideo Baba, in an interview with Gaming Angels conducted at New York Comic Con.

“We are currently in the very early phases of work for next generation Playstation titles,” Baba confirmed.

“But we still have no plans to bring the series back to the Xbox, or Xbox One. We feel that our core fanbase leans toward the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4, so we are focusing our efforts on bringing the best possible Tales experience there.”

Only one game in the series made it to Xbox 360 – Tales of Vesperia. The latest release is Tales of Xillia for; Tales of Xillia 2 and Tales of Symphonia Chronicles arrive next year for PS3.

Thanks, Shack News.

in my opinion, he’s absolutely right.
we saw what happened in this gen. first, there was no ps3 tales game. and sales were bad on the xbox. but after that, every tales of came on the ps3, plus an exclusive ps3 tales which was not only one of the best selling games in japan, but even got a sequel and western localisation etc…
i’m really looking foreward to the seres moving to ps4. i saw hideo baba in persn. he’s funny and a great person who understands the gaming market and the western audience.
i would also love to see localisations for the ps vita tales of games…

PS3 fans did not buy Tales of Xillia in America or Europe. It sold less than 200K in North America, and less than 80K in Europe.

Namco should consider making the game for Wii U and PS4. The sales of Xenoblade in the US prove that there is a market for that type of game on Nintendo systems.

Xenoblade sold well more than 400K in the US.

@6 – Well, exactly. Japan loves the Playstation. Maybe not as much as they love the 3DS, but when you see the PS3 versions of Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Graces F sold in their first weeks in Japan what the 360 version of ToV and the Wii version of ToG in their lifetimes, you can see why when it comes to the two next gen choices (that being PS4 and XB1), they will stick with Playstation 4.

And Graces’ first week sales is only half of what Graces F did in Japan during the same period.
For a niche RPG series like Tales, Japan matters much more than the West which means that Tales is probably going to stick to the 3DS and the PS4 instead of the Wii U for the time being.

@9 – Hideo Baba has said in the last year that he doesn’t want to spread the series out over several systems anymore, so when they made a choice for next gen, all of the upcoming games will be for that system, so I guess we can look forward to Tales being on PS4 for the next 6 or 6 years.

US sales only matter when it comes to localization. If the series doesn’t pick up over here, it just won’t get localized. That’s all. It’s not moving off the Playstation anytime soon.

It’s really only the beginning, anyway. NIS said they’re working on a PS4 title and I’m sure the other usual JRPG suspects will be announcing stuff soon. As a JRPG fan, I’m sure the PS4 will be the home console to get.

#7 Tales of Graces F sold at least x3 more on ps3 than tales of Graces on Wii, PS3 was only buying platform for all last tales, Vesperia included.

@11 – Ignore him. He’s just here to try to piss on everyone’s parade and cause fights. It’s why he even brings up the Wii U, because he knows it’ll agitate people. He’s unimportant and merely exists to troll.

Tales is a JRPG. MS and Xbox One have absolutely abandoned Japanese market and tastes. Of course this makes sense.

3DS and PS4 are the only places for these games to go. X1 is Umerica console and Wii U is dead.
