Blizzard’s Battle.net desktop launcher video escapes beta

Tuesday, 23rd July 2013 14:03 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Footage of Blizzard’s Battle.net desktop client has surfaced.

The beta of the system has been posted to YouTube and embedded below.

According previous reports, the launcher will allow users to launch their Blizzard games from their desktop, as well as keep track of news, updates, and the like.

It’s in beta, apparently, and the general consensus is that eventually users will be able to make purchases through the application.

Thanks, MCV.

The only thing the new launcher offers is the ability to see about 5 people who are logged into battle.net in the UI.

It also stays open in the background when you launch a game, uses a fair whack of ram for little purpose and also takes longer to load than the standard launchers. So as a launcher it’s pretty terrible. I got rid of it after a few weeks because it’s just worse in every way.

It offers no improvements or benefits to the user right now. I’d say that unless they implement a battle.net chat client the dev time spent on this exercise was totally wasted.
