UK Charts: The Last of Us holds first for 4th week running

Monday, 8th July 2013 09:42 GMT By Dave Cook

The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog has held firm at top of the UK charts for a fourth consecutive week. Get the full chart here.

While The Last of Us retains its position, 3DS newcomer Project X Zone did little to shake it off its pedestal, coming in at 18. It’s still a good position for the game, as it’s quick a lovely little oddity that sees character from the Namco, Sega and Capcom back catalogues clash in grid-based combat skirmishes. It’s nuts, but fun.

Here is this week’s chart in full:

  • 1. The Last of Us – Sony
  • 2. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition – Microsoft
  • 3. FIFA 13 – EA
  • 4. Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Nintendo
  • 5. Assassin’s Creed III – Ubisoft
  • 6. Tomb Raider – Square Enix
  • 7. Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Activision
  • 8. The Sims 3: Island Paradise – EA
  • 9. Deadpool – Activision
  • 10. Far Cry 3 – Ubisoft
  • 11. Injustice: Gods Among Us – Warner Bros
  • 12. Need for Speed: Most Wanted – EA
  • 13. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes – Warner Bros
  • 14. BioShock: Infinite – 2K Games
  • 15. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Legendary – Bethesda
  • 16. God of War: Ascension – Sony
  • 17. Grid 2 – Codemasters
  • 18. Project X Zone – Namco Bandai
  • 19. Luigi’s Mansion 2 – Nintendo
  • 20. LEGO The Lord of the Rings – Warner Bros

yeah yeah, nice sp, great story and all but the mp in this game is really addictive. that´s where the potential lies imo. great atmosphere. never really nails it but the potential is HUGE. wish it would fully deliver. i want a dedicated, more polished and thought out mp game like this so bad…i wish naughty dog´s next game will be an apocalyptic survivor team based loothunt´n´crafting open world camp/tower defense multiplayer third person shooter game

Great to see, This game deserves the spotlight that it deserves even though it isn’t perfect but it truly shines in most areas and as a xbox fan I’m glad I bought a PS3 for games such as this and uncharted. keep up the good work

@polygem totally agree on the multiplayer, just out of curiosity, where do you think they can improve on it?

Project X Zone could have done a little bit better but it is not surprising since i have seen a single TV Ad, i heard good things about it.

Um it surprises me that The Last Of Us has stayed this long (not surprising i’m still seeing TV Ads) The story i have completed recentlyand i was completely shocked with Joel’s choices towards the end and a little surprised by the ending. But what shocks me the most is to see GOW Ascension back in the top 20.

That multiplayer idea would be cool.

@diggidy: i would like to have bigger maps. the tension in this game is great and that´s because it´s more slow paced. i wouldn´t mind to have it even more slow paced though. i think it´s a great concept. if you get into a fight it is so much more intense than just see enemy shoot, run, see next, shoot, run…like in most mp shooters. i would love to see huge maps, with lots of buildings on it, the ability to craft more different traps. i love the music. the game is a bit clunky. everything could be smoother. loving that you have to pick up things from fallen bodies to gain more stuff. i´d love to have a real camp where i could go to to and then improve things like fences, building a tower etc. to make it stronger as you progress…i am talking about a new game here though :)
i really like the idea behind the camp system: loot stuff in mp matches to keep your folks at the camp happy. if you fuck up your people will die…back to week 1. that´s an awesome concept but it´s underdeveloped right now.
i think the crafting is great for the mp it could become a bit smoother too but overall it´s great. game is pretty balanced i must say, at least it seems to me this far (i´m level/week 13, just finished my hunter playthrough, now on team fireflies).

@poly Agree with everything you said, I love the multiplayer but think it could be so much more. I dig the idea of a large world where you belong to a clan and have to leave the safety of your camp to recover items to keep your clan strong, it would be great if it was procedurally generated events like a supply drop and you rush there to secure the supplies and have to battle other clans for the items. I also think it would be awesome if there were more randomly generated events in game like a group of Clickers getting thrown in there while you’re trying to fight off another clan (not sure how the AI would deal with it :) but in concept it would be great). I also love the pace, there’s nothing quite like being the last survivor in your group and seeing the enemy rushing at you across the map but you’re armed with two nail bombs, a molotov and a machete so you stand a bit of a chance :)

What was it that EA said? Oh yes, new IPs don’t work late in a generation.
Let’s see: PS4 is on the way and has some positive hype behind it. PS3 is having its last big year and yet, a new EXCLUSIVE game for the “dying” console that is a NEW IP and features a freaking NON-SEXUALIZED GIRL on the cover is selling very well.

Yeah, EA was totally right. Look how well Crysis 3, Dead Space 3 and Army of Two 3 worked out for them.

@diggidy: yep, that would truly be great! i hope they realise what they have there and will even improve on it with a dedicated game around this idea. i´d love to see that happen. you gotta give the mp devs some credit. it´s nothing really groundbreaking new but it´s some fresh ideas mixed with tested and proven shooter stuff. it really feels like a fresh experience to me and it works damn well. it might look like just another cover based mp shooter at first but it really is so much more than that.

i hope they will create a full AAA stand alone dedicated multiplayer game based on the games world and setting…i think it could work very well: The Last of Us: Faction Wars.

i also have high hopes for the mad max game. maybe that one will get this right too. we´ll see.

for now, i´d be very happy to see some new and maybe some bigger maps for the last of us within the next few months. totally hooked on it now.
i bet we´ll see some new gamemodes too (clickers?)
it really seems like we´re not the only ones liking the mp. the lobbies are packed right now which is awesome. if this will become a success……..we´ll get more of it.

Glad it’s still #1. I like the mp but the maps are too small.

Game totally deserves it! I am just starting with the multiplayer, and have to admit it kinda takes some time to get into that… but I can see great potential there! Great atmosphere, indeed!

  16. polygem

@Dimaco: stick with it! i wasn´t that impressed at first but it really gets so much better the longer you play it. i suggest to use the semi automatic rifle. it´s the best allrounder really. don´t go for the kill by any means in this game, especially not if you just started playing it. play slow paced and observe the scenario, loot, stick together with the team and revive if you can (but again, never rush into situations, sometimes you just cannot help people if the room is packed with foes).

played 5 hours or so again yesterday. it only gets better.

No wonder! It’s one of those game experiences you’ll never forget. From story, dialogues to soundtrack the game is phenomenal.Gameplay is good but not perfect.
Since some people play it on easier difficulties and with listen mode on it’s no surpise they find it shallow while being more of a movie than a game.
TLOU actually shines on Hard or Survivor difficulty with listen mode turned off

  18. polygem

@18: i´m falling more and more in love with the game now so i will definitely have another playthrough (i´m playing on normal right now). still haven´t finished it though because my gf wants to see the ending too and we couldn´t find some time together to continue playing it. i´m at the end now i guess….the hospital. so no spoilers please!

would you suggest to jump right into survivor or should i check out hard first? i finished some games on the hardest mode but i am not the most patient of gamers….managed to finish the souls games too though.

  19. Dimaco

@ Polygem: thanks for the hints, that is highly appreciated! Since I finished the sp first (and took my time to enjoy that), I started the mp only recently, while apparently everybody else was already much further in level… not giving up though! :-)

Btw, is it normal that after evwry single match I get thrown back to the matchmaking lobby, and it takes a lot to find another game? Anybody getting the same problem??

    #20 1 year ago
  21. polygem

@21: yeah it´s normal to go back to matchmaking…loading times can be long sometimes, i agree but it really doesn´t take THAT long for me. lobbies are always packed with people and matches start pretty fast but then the loading screen can be a pain in the ass. i almost always play supply raid. it´s so much fun. will jump back in right now.

  22. Lengendaryboss

I always play Supply Raid too, i tried the other mode and it was awful three of the players just holed up inside a small house. Where they got smoked and killed and kept doing that until the end of the many matches, so i counterattacked them many times by myself. Of course i tried it again and the other team used that camping tactic so we all know how that ended :)

Now i hope for more modes: Traditional: Deathmatch, Co-Op survival, Objectives Mode.

  23. polygem

an objectives mode would be cool. i loved postgrab in the original lost planet. played the shit out of it. it was basically just a few posts placed on the map and you had to activate them and then try to controll and dominate them. kind of like conquest mode in bf actually….could really work with last of us too (bigger maps needed!)

they could use the generators that are in the game as posts!!!

maybe some could even trigger events like clicker attacks etc…holy shit the game has so much potential.

  24. Dimaco

Btw looked a bit on the internet and found out other players had that issue.. just delete and re-download the game data, it did the trick.. it’s much smoother now! Just suggesting if somebody else had that problem… loving it!

  25. polygem

ok, good to know – if it´ll happen to me too. thx.

  26. zoopdeloop

@19 it depends on how many playthroughs are you willing to give it a go
In hard mode supplies are scarce but still you got listen mode (you can turn it off from the options)
The same goes on Survivor difficulty except that you can get killed easily (1-2 hits)and Listen mode is automatically turned off.

Personally i would choose survivor since that’s the whole essence of the game…being realistic and all about survival.
Easy and Normal are there for those who want only to enjoy the story.

    #26 1 year ago
  27. polygem

ok, thanks man…i will look into that. i feel like trying it on survivor and play it save and slow paced, trying to sneak as much as i can.
