Sony boss: abandoning PS3 would be “maker’s ego”

Friday, 28th June 2013 04:31 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Sony Japan president Hiroshi Kawano has said he doesn’t expect gamers to jump from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 immediately just because the platform holder has a new console out.

In a Famitsu interview translated by Kotaku, Kawano said Sony doesn’t want to just abandon the PlayStation 3.

“It’s been seven years since the release of the PS3 and the console continues to sell at a constant pace, plus we have many upcoming titles,” he said. “We have no intention of immediately shifting from the PS3 to the PS4.”

Kawano seemed hopeful but not demanding that gamers will make the transition rapidly.

“With the 2014 launch of our cloud service in the US allowing users to play PS3 games on the PS4, some people may switch consoles from the PS3 to the PS4. But that’ll be a gradual process,” he said.

“And to say ‘we’re releasing a new console, so trade in your old ones for it’ would be a maker’s ego talking, plain and simple.”

The PlayStation 4 is expected before the end of the year.

Ooh! Cloud! He said cloud! LIARRRRRRR!!! SHUT YOUR FILTHY MOUTH!!!!

“And to say ‘we’re releasing a new console, so trade in your old ones for it’ would be a maker’s ego talking, plain and simple.”

It would probably also mean even more losses for the already loss-making PlayStation brand…

And who would want that for our lovely, caring, kitten feeding, friendly neighbourhood global corporation, eh?

The PS3′s fall lineup support his claim quite well. Also, I’m not even gonna comment on #1′s thoughts.

bloomberg said that the ps4 division has posted profit this year, and as such, the company of sony as a whole, which has led to Kaz Harai getting a 1.5 mil payout for turning the company around

@1 stop being a pathetic fanboy, The difference between Sony and MS when it comes to the cloud is Sony is not claiming that it will make the PS4 10 times as powerful, only that it will allow people to play PS3 games on there PS4, a feature far more believable…

@1 G1GANOOBZ, you jumped on the booze early this weekend and partay like it is 1999?, LOOOOL!…

anyway as i mentioned here at vg247 many times, the ps3 will have 5 more good years at least. and the ps3 will never be cut off the psn networks. you can just look at the long support of the ps2 to see that. but at the micro$hafs camp they killed the first gen xbox at day one, after x360 release. when xbone arrive they will do the same with x360.

@1 – Sony feeds Kittens? Sweet! MS loves their Dogs, especially in call of duty playing sports while watching TV on their TV.
