Thursday, 20th June 2013 14:33 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

PlayStation Access TV has released a video showing how PS Plus will work on PS4. So far, what we know is that a Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer on PS4, and those who currently have a subscription, will automatically get PlayStation 4 content. PlayStation Plus also provides free games, discounts and access to exclusive content. Surely there is more to know so hit up the video below. Thanks, CyberMarco.

Is it ironic that Sony has escaped criticism on this because so many prospective PS4 buyers are Xbox 360 owners?

Why yes, I think it is.

@2, well have fun on your Wii-utanic.

No xbox one, no playstation 4 and for what? Cos you can’t afford a small yearly fee?

Stop spending time trolling on websites and go and work for that £40.

Gaming is meant to be fun, I think you’ve lost sight of that.

@6 Not according to the people here who insist that no 360 gamer ever had a problem with MS’ policies and it was all faux outrage from Sony trolls which forced MS to bork the greatest system ever conceived. Or something like that, I lose track of the nonsense.

  8. MCTJim PS players now have to pay for online multiplayer. I wonder if they will have to pay to change their GT’s too?

I never minded playing the 50 now 60 bucks a year for xbox live as its a good service. I will be using it too when playing the X1.

The reason they really escaped criticism was the huge gaffe that MS did, but now that its been reversed, even ground and the games decide like it should.

@6 i am thinking of selling the wii-u now, after i read they uses slaves to make it… will just stick to my ps3, it has always been the best console after all.

  10. sg1974

@8 Only PS4 players, not PS3, and publishers will be allowed to offer MP for free outside that programme, according to a Sony mouth t’other day.

  11. KineticCalvaria

@9, I don’t like seeing you so vulnerable and lonely. Whose side are you on now? PC? Are you joining the pirates?

    Are you leaving gaming altogether?!

What happened to the super-troll we all love to hate?!

    #11 2 years ago
  12. Samoan Spider

@9 You didn’t strike me as someone with principles lol? But I’d imagine the PS4 is made in Foxconn so I’d suggest not buying one of those either. In fact the PS3 was built there too. In fact, the screen in the device you’re using to view this is probably made by slave labour too. Shit, this is deep man!

  13. stockops3

Well I know I will NEVER leave PS plus because its such GREAT Value i got my last September for £30 and have accessed games like Bulletstorm, RDR, Just Cause 2, Catherine, Xcom, LBP Karting, Motorstorm, Bioshock 2 Vita games like – MGS HD, Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2048 etc etc etc all for free, so I don’t mind that PS4 requires plus because its just great value.

    #13 2 years ago
  14. MCTJim

@10. So its like xbox live too. Thats a win win then for Sony as it will enhance their own current free service :D

oh so ps3fanboy thinks because microsoft changed their ways because of online backlash, Sony gives a rats ass about some idiot spamming on some gaming websites with obviously broken Caps Lock keys?…

    #16 2 years ago
  17. ps3fanboy

@16 microsoft have gone public and said they changed their ways because of the sony boys… and i am one of them sony boys they refereed to. we got rid of the xbones drm, you xbots should be very thankful… now help us get rid of the pay2play online bs, and you also will force microsoft to make their online gaming free, its a given…. don’t hate let us work together to get a better gaming for all.

  18. silkvg247

I think p2play online is great, should filter out many of the over privileged brats that troll and scream and whine throughout matches.

    #18 2 years ago
  19. ps3fanboy

@18 look up youtube and watch cod play xbox vids… there is only brats that troll and scream and whine. on the playstation there is nothing.. so you are just flatout lying outta your ass..

still waiting for the option to change my PSN account’s region.(messed up and don’t want to give up the name)

    #21 2 years ago
  22. Kieran

@21 its weird why Sony didnt allow that i also wish we were giving the option to change our PSN names microsoft allow with a fee of course

    #22 2 years ago
  23. KineticCalvaria

@17, I don’t want it to be free, I find in terms of services that Xbox Live has been way ahead of PSN for a long while, it’s taken Sony years to catch up and only now are they starting to improve PSN with PS+ and its IGC.

I have no problem paying for a good service, the amount of good and free content we get in return far out weighs the negatives.

‘don’t hate let us work together to get a better gaming for all.’
Thats a joke right? After your behaviour over the past couple of months?!

true true and true .. man I luv my plus, BF3 coming next month for free

  25. actuallyisnotafox

kinda smart giving us free games for a service most likely everyone will use, it encourages more sales of games in my opinion :)

  26. CyberMarco

Then why all those features are free on PC? As much as I like PS+ and I think it’s one of the best, if not the best, subscription service on the market, I despise the decision of putting the multiplayer portion of the game behind a pay-wall.

I believe that when you pay 60$ for a game, you should be able to play all of its content, single and multiplayer. The “the platform holder must get a revenue for the infrastructure that he’s providing” is out of place because it’s already covered with the ~10$+ difference compared to PC games.

    #26 2 years ago
  27. KineticCalvaria

@26, well mainly because its not a service? Lol. Its an OS (one that varies on personal preference).

I’m talking about consoles which are made for a single purpose which is gaming (or at least was) and made by a single company. PC doesn’t apply to that, there is no official ‘gaming/network service’ unless you count Steam but thats optional, Live and PSN aren’t, it’s built in.

Also CM, please don’t start a console vs PC debate again, there is no winner, they’re completely different things like I said.

    #27 2 years ago
  28. CyberMarco

What does the OS have to do with this?

When you buy a game on PC, whatever the service, Steam, Origin, Uplay, or indie providers, you aren’t forced to fork extra cash.

If you want to play BF4, you are “forced” to use Origin, but aren’t forced to pay an extra fee for the platform.

    #28 2 years ago
  29. KineticCalvaria

@28, because there isn’t anyone maintaining a service like PSN or Live, that’s what I mean (Steam/Origin etc is optional and not built in as I mentioned).

With PC you can do whatever you want because you run that PC how you like, with a console you can’t it’s up to MS and Sony.

Who exactly would you pay even if they did charge for MP, Steam? Well no that ain’t happening because developers can just release the game themselves or through an alternative service, which you can’t on consoles.

So how on earth would that work on consoles, you can’t buy your games on another service!? As I say the service is the OS, unlike PC where your OS allows you to install any services you want such as Steam/Origin.

The publishers can turn around and say they want you to pay for online on PC and consoles alike with games such as MMO’s which already charge 8.99 p/m, so effectively you’ve been paying for online for years if you play MMO’s.

This is what I mean the argument isn’t even valid, they aren’t the same things.

Maybe I didn’t make myself clear and you missed my point.

I was talking about having access to the game’s content with my 60$ purchase. If that can be done on PC, I can’t see a viable reason why it can’t be on consoles. Sure, you can charge for Skype, UStream and other services as they are complementary, but you should be able to get the whole experience of a game right out of the box.

And the fact that Steam/Origin is optional doesn’t change the fact that are providing extra services like cross-game chat, game clans, modding tools etc. for free.

    #30 2 years ago
  31. KineticCalvaria

Yeah I get your point dude, but as I pointed out you’re paying to improve the service on Sony or MS’s end.

There is no ‘end’ on PC, no particular company is running the network, so there isn’t anybody to fund. That’s why its free.

    #31 2 years ago
  32. CyberMarco

Well, isn’t Steam providing a certain service for free? Don’t they have servers to maintain?

    #32 2 years ago
  33. KineticCalvaria

@31, yeah and they make their money straight from the publishers and devs, it’s not their decision whether to charge for MP, it’s the developers/publishers so therefore they couldn’t implement that even if they wanted to.

Customers, devs and pubs would just use another service if it turned into a premium service.

And sorry dude but I’m actually bored of this conversation haha, no offence intended. :D (my arms hurt)

    #33 2 years ago
  34. CyberMarco

I’m sure that none of the XBL gold money goes to the pub/dev.

None taken, it’s just nice to have a healthy debate after all this crap lately! :P

  35. KineticCalvaria

@34, I don’t understand the question? We’re just going over points I’ve already explained :)

Haha well I’m gonna wrap it up there on my end, let’s agree to disagree eh? :D

for some reason i agree with mr.ps3fanboy

paying for online is getting ridiculessly useless

most games we play use Peer2Peer hosting (excluding EA games)

and xbox live/psn services are not that great (psn is total shit, xbox live is full of hackers)

so why should i pay for basic online, where steam offers a much better service that’s it’s 100% free? and hacker free too

so really what’s the deal with paying for online?
i might understand paying one time 60$ for it but every fucking year it turns out to be quite expansive since most games nowadays are absolute shite, besides eastern developers (4A games, CDPR,from software) the games today are really not worth your money, and most of them come with over priced multiplayer DLC

so i’m really not buying next gen if basic multiplayer is not free

    #39 2 years ago
  40. noamlol2

    amazing service my ass

if it would let me what free games i want to pick for my memebership then it would be ideal service
but they’re forcing me to pay 50$ every year for a mixed bag rentals (which i can’t access if my membership is over) with no real value to it?
and don’t give me that crap that PSN is going to be better it’s not.
paying for xbox live sucks really, but their service is on par with steam (which is free)
but really online subscribtion should be either one time, or free for all

I’m happy with it and don’t care about anything else.

    @44 does a 10.000rpm HDD work on ps3?

    1) my understanding is that online multilayer gaming is actually done between consoles (like p2p). Therefore you already paid for the right to play online multiplayer games if you paid for your internet. The console manufacturers have no right to make up a fake fee.

    2) if you dont believe the above is true, lookup patent US6069896.pdf.

    3) the whole point of the ‘internet’ is that you pay for your own internet connection to connect with other computers. YOU DONT PAY FOR THE OTHER PERSONS INTERNET AND COMPUTERS TOO!!!

I just wont purchase a ps4 or xbox 1 FULLSTOP. If consumers support these businesses doing this, then it is like selling ice to the Ice to the Eskimos. (you all ready paid for the console, your internet connection, the game) To play online costs very little – they are just relying on consumer ignorance to rip you off.

PLEASE Consider abandoning gaming consoles until they allow you to use your internet (WHICH YOU ALL READY PAID FOR) for playing online games.
