Manhunt kills its way to PSN Europe today

Friday, 17th May 2013 10:51 GMT By Dave Cook

Manhunt has released on PSN Europe, courtesy of publisher Rockstar Games. The mega-controversial kill-em-up comes with all the PS2 content intact and unedited.

Rockstar flagged up the release in a press release this morning, and reminded us of the £7.99 price-point. You can check out the game’s product page on PSN here.

If you missed the game first time around, you play as James Earl Cash, a felon who is let loose in Carcer City, and must fight for his life in a sadistic game orchestrated by sick movie director Lionel Starkweather. One part stealth game, one part snuff movie, the game raised alarm in the tabloid press and among parents upon its release, but here we all are, alive and well.

Let us know if you plan on picking it up today.

Manhunt is a superb game. Look beyond the brutally graphic and sensationalist kill system and you find one of the best stealth games ever.

The sense of peril in the game (particularly the first 2/3rds) is unmatched, truly. It’s amazingly tense and the brutal tone adds a huge amount to that. Environments like the abandoned zoo only enhance the sense of abandonment further.

Later the game introduces a very workable cover-based mechanic, years before bigger titles like Gears of War made such a big noise about it.

It’s a shame so few will look at the game beyond the sensationalism. Avoid the sequel though.

@4 Agreed. I found it to be a very playable experience, with a menacing tone. Sure it’s hyper violent, but non more so than a typical horror film.

The german government would like to remind you that violent videogames are bad, mkay? So stop killing virtual people, join the military and kill us some Afghan people. You’re an adult, you should be able to pull that off.

@4: Yep. I shared my views on the game in a previous thread. Agree with you on all points and yes, the sequel was bad.
