UK Charts – Dead Island: Riptide stumbles to number one spot

Monday, 29th April 2013 09:39 GMT By Nick Akerman

Despite a less than stellar promotion period, Dead Island: Riptide has debuted at number one in the UK games chart. The zombie title appears to have accumulated less than half the launch week sales of the original game, but still manages to come out on top.

Injustice: Gods Among Us drops down to second, while Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen nabs third. Namco’s Star Trek title arrives in fourth, with Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite falling to fifth and sixth respectively. FIFA 13 props them all up in seventh.

It’s worth noting Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut has only just managed to chart inside the top 40. Access Games’ cult title sneaks in at number 38. Here’s the top 10:

1. Dead Island Riptide
2. Injustice: Gods Among Us
3. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
4. Star Trek
5. Tomb Raider
6. Bioshock Infinite
7. FIFA 13
8. Lego City Undercover
9. Defiance
10. Luigi’s Mansion 2

Cheers, Eurogamer.

Dead Island Glitchtide and Star Trek…… sigh…..

Good to See Lego City Undercover and Luigi’s Mansion getting some love. BioShock Infinite should have some legs as well. That game is fantastic on PC.

Same thing happened with the first Dead Island. It shot to the top spot upon release. Anyway, for the most part, I’m having a lot of fun with it. Hope it gets patched for a couple of glitches I’m getting, but its as much fun as the first one for me, plus importing a character and starting at level 41 helped hugely.
Good to see Bioshock and Tomb Raider still in there.

I’m happy to see Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen up there.

Injustice, and possibly Luigi’s Mansion give a silver lining to an otherwise cloudy chart picture.

The full chart tells a bleak story. Colonial marines is STILL in the top 20, and Fire Emblem has fallen all the way to 13. It’s an absolute crime.

And that goes for you too VG247. Where is the Fire Emblem review? Game that classy deserves at least some acknowledgement. You guys super busy?

Wow, really wasn’t expecting this. People that are buying Riptide are basically telling the publisher that it’s ok to release the exact same game with a less interesting game world, add a few problems to it and charge near full price for the package instead of releasing the damn thing as a 5 or 10 dollar DLC.

The VG247 Staff is too busy playing shooters and Dead Island Glitchtide to actually give a good game like Fire Emblem a chance.

@7: Which upsets me, especially since my expectations of VG247 are somewhat unreasonable! The review should of been up a while ago, and the fact we’re about two weeks after release and there has been no mention of 1. The DLC that is now out for it and 2. A review article is really, really quite upsetting.
