Home creator wants to make horror-based dating sim

Thursday, 28th March 2013 10:00 GMT By Dave Cook

Benjamin Rivers created the eerie pixel art horror game Home, but now he’s looking to create a very different kind of project – a horror-based psychological dating sim.

The idea came out of a joke tweet Rivers published last month:

Speaking with Joystiq, Rivers said on the matter, “Well, I made a joke on Twitter like a month ago, where I was like ‘Hey guys, if I did a horror game with a dating-sim element, would people play it?’ and people were like ‘Yeah!’ Playing things like Mass Effect while finishing this game, playing Persona, that element of a really relationship-based game where you chase stuff like that, that’s kind of my new jam.

“It’s not a grinding game or anything like that, but I want to take a lot of what you do in those relationship games like Persona and offload some of that to people,

“I want to basically take a game that makes you feel as cool as you do in Persona, as far as relationships, [being] as connected. but see if I can do it without making it so video game-y, but still make it where people maybe even have a more powerful reaction because they buy in.”

It sounds very interesting. What could such a game look like? Let us know what you think below.

Haha “dim”. That’s just like him. “Home” was not only riddled with typos but in my instance also had a game crashing bug right at the finale. Thank god that one was able to save at any point…

As I also got no reply from support, “Home” was a prime example for one of those indie games lacking essential polish/support. Like the ones I just recently mentioned in one of my comments… the ones one usually doesn’t hear about. But I guess the concept and style of “Home” were decent enough that it was still widely reported on.
