Sony open to paid alpha games, cites Dust 514 as example

PlayStation 4 is opening up to indies in a big way, and Sony’s VP of publishing Adam Boyes has said at GDC that the company is open to the idea of paid alphas – like Minecraft PC – in future.

Speaking with Joystiq, Boyes said, “[Dust 514] is a great example of putting out content that you know is not final. If you want to monetize it, that’s fine.

“I mean, if you want to put out a game that’s playable and does pass the checklists and stuff, you can. If it doesn’t sell and you can’t support, you may not want to support, but we absolutely support that.”

As long as it doesn’t involve game or system-breaking bugs then Sony will consider it, essentially.

What do you think? Is this a positive step? Let us know below.

Are they going to release Dust 514 on the PS4 as well?

Never understood why they planned on supporting a game on a console that is soon to be replaced.

But will they still charge massive amounts of money for QA of every patch released during the development?

i hope so because this forces the developer to release a finished product that is working as it should from release day.
