Nintendo removes restrictions on the sale of 18+ games through European eShop

Thursday, 21st March 2013 14:56 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Nintendo has removed its restrictions on the sale of 18+ rated through the eShop in Europe.

Upon launch, it was found the service restricted the ability to buy or search for titles rated 18+ before 11.00pm. The reason, according to NoE, was due to restrictions in Germany where the servers are based in the region.

“Nintendo has lifted the access restrictions content rated 18+. Adults can now browse and buy all games at any time of the day,” read a statement from the firm on Eurogamer.

“Following analysis of the Parental Controls system on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in cooperation with USK, the German Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body, it was deemed that Nintendo’s Parental Control system is of very high quality and offers a remarkable level of protection for children. Nintendo’s Parental Control system was found to have proved itself in practice.

“Nintendo always encourages parents to make use of Parental Controls to control access to content they deem inappropriate for their children.”

Browse and buy to your heart’s content, EU folks.

Cessation of their being utter twits? Yeah, I can settle for common sense winning out, here, even if they didn’t offer much more than hogswash to cta.
I don’t place much in the idea they were still live-testing the commerce/account functionality after the device was already on sale. European owners should never have been saddled with such silly restrictions. NoE is so NoE though.

Quite a long bloody time though! It can’t have helped sales of affected titles. Even if you didn’t want to buy them digitally you couldn’t even watch trailers of the games. Good that they’ve got it sorted though.
